Local Elections May 5th 2022

Havering may well go to Havering Residents Association from vermin. Usually this results in residents jumping ship and becoming Tory councillors directly after the election in exchange for cabinet posts. Apparently this time round they have sworn an oath of loyalty to not cross sides. To make things more interesting there is an Independent Residents Association who refuse to work with anyone and have ex NF members as councillors.
I live in a very Labour street in Havering despite our ward being solidly Conservative. When the vermin are out canvassing the WhatsApp group goes off so we can all be ready with the abuse.

Who are the ex NFers on the council? There are several residents groups listed.

My ward has three Labour councillors. Cardiff Labour in all honesty warrant a shoeing, but are unlikely to get one. I'd be happy enough with a scare by losing a few councillors to the Plaid/ Green alliance who are the only other people trying around here. There's a light smattering of posters in nearby streets, notably fewer for both than in recent elections.

I presume the Greens are pretty hopeful of gains this time around by mopping up disaffected former LP voters?

The great questions of the day are Will enough voters give the Tories a bloody enough nose to bring about an 'Et Tu Brutus' moment for the floppy haired twat and will enough voters return to Labour to prevent dark mutterings behind Starmer's back?
This raises the odd scenario where I may not be arsed to go and vote but will check the results closely the next morning.

Swansea. Two Laboiur councillors in my ward here -- they wiped out the previous two Lib-Dems  in the last lot of Welsh local elections, and have large majorties right now.

On Thursday though, I predict indifferent turn-out. Both the City Council and my ward will near-definitely stay Labour though. As Lab Councils go, I've seen worse, but they're averagely lacking in competence ....

I will vote Labour myself, as much out of tradition/tribalism as anything else -- and I quite like the two councillors' apparantly (?) good knowledge of very local issues. More than I can be arsed to know myself! :D

Sent off my postal vote for Bethnal Green, Tower Hamlets. Labour candidates usually get voted in. Have been past scandals about voting fraud in the borough.

Labour is working hard here, I've had 4 flyers from them so far, 2 from the Tories, nowt from the LibDems or Greens.

Apparently they have been knocking doors in my road, but I've a 'no cold caller' sign, so not mine.

I've had jack shit from the Tories who must reckon that they will win by such a margin round here that it's not worth spending any money on a sure thing (they're almost certainly right)
LibDems have sent me two leaflets, someone knocked my door who I thought looked like a LibDem campaigner but fortunately he identified himself as the joiner who had come to measure up for fitted cupboards before I made a fool of myself and gave him an earful.
Labour have given me a leaflet and a phone call. He actually asked for Son Q, however when I told him that Son Q had moved out in October to live with the Girl of His Mother's Dreams he settled for me instead.
After the sales pitch he asked me to do a pop quiz.
The final question was how best would you describe the difference between Starmer and Johnson.
My answer of "The first is completely useless and second is also completely useless and a lying sack of shit to boot" didn't seem to be on his list of expected answers.

Every seat in Reading is up for grabs (iirc).

Greens making a big push to hold all 3 councillors in my ward. Lots of window posters.

Labour appear to have given up. Only a couple of boards and the candidates - whilst perfectly reasonable sounding - are young, inexperienced and out of ward from what I can see, rather than their past record of standing people prominent/rooted in (sections of) the community.

The rest of Reading? Dunno.
A mate of mine is running for Labour in your ward I think (park, Newtown sort of area)?

We've had a lot of labour leaflets delivered on my side of the river and I also saw Matt Rodda MP knocking on doors when I was having a pint in the Fox and Hounds on Saturday. Not seen a tory (they haven't got the nerve) but also not seen a green or a lib dem. Not seen any posters in windows or placards in front gardens. Lots of Ukraine flags though.

Yeah, the Labour candidates for Park seem like a decent enough bunch as far as it goes. But very different from their usual slate.

Wandered across the border into Wokingham this morning and saw a massive Tory board.

It is the Independent Residents Group rather than IRA unfortunately.

Well it's going to be interesting here, it looks like Labour could take over Worthing Borough Council for the first time ever, which is a shocker as they only won their first ever seat in a by-election 5 years ago.

Current make-up is Tories & Labour both on 17 (1 former LD), 2 LibDems, and 1 independent (former Tory), with 14 seats up for election this year.

Labour is taking it seriously, look who turned up yesterday to do a bit of campaigning.

LABOUR leader Keir Starmer says the party is on the brink of a “historic first” by taking council control from the Conservatives.

Campaigning in Worthing ahead of the local elections on Thursday, Sir Keir said the party has put forward a “positive case” for change and he is hopeful that Labour will win control in the town for the first time. He said: “It’s incredible that we are even talking about Worthing possibly becoming a Labour council, which would be a historic first.

“I think that tells you how far the Labour Party has come in the last two years and shows you the positivity of the Labour team here in Worthing and the positivity of the ideas. Worthing needs change and what people want here is a council that meets their local ambition, and that’s what a Labour council would do.”

A round-up of seven election results that the Guardian thinks will reveal the public mood.

Well...the mood of the 30% of the registered electorate that will take part, anyway.
