Local Elections May 5th 2022

Having said all that it was a whopping (wapping) win. So even with some dodgy stuff (alleged) then I think he would have won.

Over in East Sussex, Labour has lost 3 seats to the Greens in Hastings, losing overall control.
Usually that results in the Greens forming a ‘rainbow alliance’ with Tory/lib dem vermin, then all those green ‘progressives’ end up feeling like a right bunch of chumps for having voted for them. Happened countless times yet people still fall for their leftish veneer. Punishing austerity but with an extra recycling bin.

When we realised I couldn't vote, I was trying to say to my daughter to ask the poll workers if she wasn't sure how to fill it in (I wasn't even trying to instruct her myself), and three poll workers came and moved very close as if they were about to physically eject me before I could even get the sentence out. But a couple of dozen Aspire supporters blocking the entrance and path, oh, that's fine.

Not necessarily, given that he also had a huge win when he was committing fraud before.

Couple of dozen? Crikey.

Fair point. And even 1 dodgy vote is 1 too many.

I don’t know what to make of it all yet.

It is a reasonably large pedestrian area (John Scurr primary school), but still it was a lot of people, mostly very close to the entrance. When I talked to the cop and pointed towards the entrance, they scattered, so they knew full well they were breaking the law - they went straight back when the cop shrugged and turned away. What's the point in a cop who doesn't actually do anything?

Every single election, even when Rahman was Labour, I have to ask Rahman supporters to move out of the way both on the way to and from the polling station. They are fraudsters and don't even try very hard to hide it.

Limp dems won my local ward (63 % of the vote - this ward used to be fairly LD / tory marginal - usually 2 of one and 1 of the other. LD incumbent is a pretty good local councillor)

At Wokingham Borough level, tories lost 5 seats to LD's, so technically no overall control -
  • Conservatives - 26
  • Liberal Democrats - 23
  • Labour - 3
  • Independent - 2
I don't know enough about the independents to know which way they will go when it comes to forming an administration - nobody has needed to take much notice of them in recent years...

one is ex-tory and nimby, the other is nimby who didn't seem to be a councillor previously.

The only part of the Sussex 'region' (i.e. East Sussex County Council, Brighton & Hove City Council, and West Sussex County Council) where the Greens have been in this sort of position, in B&H, they've ended-up working with Labour, I would be surprised if that doesn't end-up being the outcome with Hastings Borough Council.

Lab 15, Con 12, Greens 5

Now -
England -328 (5 councils still to declare)
Wales -67 (4 councils still to declare)
Scotland -62 (all declared)
TOTAL -457

Pundits were saying anything north of -400 would be considered a disaster by Tory MPs.

Update again -

England -341 (2 councils still to declare)
Wales -75 (2 councils still to declare)
Scotland -62 (all declared)
TOTAL -478

Even Adam Boulton on TalkTV's 'The News Desk' is saying this is so much worst for the Tories than was thought from the overnight results. :D

That iditol Isabel Oakeshott disagrees with Boulton, and thinks Johnson will be more than happy with the results.

At someone else's suggestion I've made a report to 101 about the supporters blocking the footpath and entrance and the police officer taking no action. Doubt very much anything will happen, but I'm pissed off and want to do something.
It's a shocking story. I bet there are some investigative journalists somewhere who'd be interested in finding out whether your experience is - er - entirely unique.

how is he allowed back after declaring insolvency thought that lasted 6 years

aside from all the proven charges against him

:hmm:

Interesting.

There was a couple just ahead of me where the man tried to accompany his wife into the booth. He was stopped by one of the staff who explained that she could explain what to do for her (or something like that, I wasn’t paying too much attention.). I thought nothing of it at the time.
You were right to think nothing about it originally. Presumably, the man made an honest mistake and the official pointed out his error. The woman in the cubicle next to me was there with two excited kids.

Article about police at polling stations in Tower Hamlets yesterday. The reporter's main source of info is Cllr Andrew Wood (an 'Independent Conservative') who cycled round the polling stations to 'monitor behaviour', and it quotes the Daily Vile. Any more reputable sources on this?

<snip>
Much of the alleged behaviour that concerned him had to do with groups of campaigners who were being too persuasive with voters.

“As people get close to the polling station, sometimes it's obvious that they're going to vote and then people will congregate around with them,” he said, “they will try and get them to vote for candidate x or y. I saw that just on my bicycle on the a way here; someone was standing around the corner from [the station speaking] to this lady [and] obviously telling her where to put a vote. That's not illegal, but the issue will be; is the behaviour of the people concerned friendly? Is it approachable? If it is, that's fine. But if it's a bit intimidating, then then it's not fine.”

Wood pointed out that what constitutes “intimidation” is subjective and varies from person to person. However, he claimed he had been contacted by some voters telling him they were scared to vote in the past.

Where is this total? Guardian has -397 and I couldn't even see a count on the BBC News site. Am I blind? 😵‍💫
