Local Elections May 5th 2022

The people have spoken and it's a landslide.

With between 60% and 80% of the vote abstain is the big winner in these local elections, performing even better than usual.

And as usual the reasons for abstain's stunning victory will be swept under the carpet as people stare really hard trying to read the tea leaves for signs of where a future general election might end up. As usual people haven't been given a compelling reason to spend 20 minutes wandering down to the polling station to vote for some self-important, besuited weirdo representing parties led by sociopaths, crooks incompetents and non-entities so they can strut about acting like they have some power over the hollowed out ruins of local councils.

great to have the first knives out for labour... from the labour party.
Certainly not the first knives out tbh . I'm not close enough to argue with the role of their supporters but the rest of their statement I don't have much problem with. What's your point of disagreement with their position?

I think thats the big story of these elections, The public have just given up on politics...exactly what the scumbag tories want

What I read into the above chart is that the LibDems had the biggest shift , Cons deserting etc. You could predict a similar, lesser trend in a general election?

The LibDems are a much stronger party at the local level than they are at the Westminster level. I don't think you can equate the two beyond saying that yes, they would pick up some votes.

figure ive seen so far is turnout is projected to be down about 1.5%-2% on the last similiar election

Labour has just taken their first seat from the Tories in Worthing, with a massive majority 832 (1686 to 854 votes)!

Considering there was only 76 votes in it last year, I think it's a fair bet to assume they will take the 2 seats in my ward now.

ETA - Labour has now kicked the deputy leader out, 1595 to 1144 votes, majority 451.

Labour is trashing the Tories in Worthing, holding all their seats and now a 3rd gain from the Tories!

That's it, they have taken overall control of the council, which is remarkable considering they took their first seat ever only 5 years ago!
