Loan on universal credit?

passenger

up and down...
I was wondering if I could get a loan, from the DWP as I am on universal credit and
i did get one before and have paid that back, my reason for the loan was a fridge-freezer
they allowed me 200 pounds, but really need the money, so do not want to miss my
chance of a second one I know it sounds easy, but I'm thinking too much about it :(

p.s I thought about an oven but I'm sure they don't loan that much on them
just need an idea to get as much as I can..... please

My mate said he needed 2 things and got £348 which I think is the max. Oven and microwave should take you to that.

When I tried to get one while in between jobs some time ago, I was told they didn't do loans any more, people could only get an advance payment if they'd just claimed universal credit and you were waiting for the first payment?

Although it's entirely possible I was told a load of bollocks by the DWP, wouldn't be the first time.

Try doing a Google search for your utilities providers +trust fund. Most of the bigger/older companies will have one. You should be able to apply for white goods, ie domestic appliances.

If your utilities providers don't have a trust fund, you could try British Gas Trust Fund, because you don't have to be one of their customers in order to apply.

You might need to get someone else to submit an application for you, maybe Citizens Advice or some other advice worker or support worker.

Also try your local council. They took over responsibility for the old DWP 'crisis grants' so ask them about local welfare assistance or whatever they call it.

I got one ages ago. I needed repairs for my car to get to work. The guy said 'we cant do it for that'. He did however say, 'is your oven broken,' ? 'We can give you one for that'. One of the good guys I suppose.
Of course I said yes my oven is shagged.

Maybe its not ideal and you'd like a new one but there's lots of decent ones offered free on freecycle and Facebook marketplace.
