I'm off to ljubljana in a few weeks for work and am going to stay the weekend. Any tips on places to eat/drink/things to see off the general tourist radar?

Sorry no, never went to the capital only to drive around it in a horrendous lightning storm. But it’s meant to be really good so have a nice time.

Can highly recommend a trip to the mountains in the North, stunning. But probably beyond what you want, even though it’s a tiny country and driving up there would take about an hour at most

beer, craft beer. peoper burger and hispter area down by the university. castle is Meh but good views. funicular. Bled is OK but a bit ole people coach trippy. you can have dinner in Titos palace.

Charming City, the old army barracks nr the station are worth going to "alternative kultur centre" , Metelkova
The national museum is good too with weird posters while under Nazi occupation. It's a small country and depending on how much time you have Lake Bled isn't far and quick to get to.

I remember the burgers at Hot Horse were fantastic. There was a commune place up near the bus startion/train station that was interesting (DJWrongspeed got the name of the place) Good beer and the market was a lovely place to browse while down by the river you could pick up all sorts of stuff from lots of Yugo-nostalgia items to Arts student's work. Some decent live music too although I can't remember the name of the spot we went to. Lovely place. Reminds me I'd like to go back sometime.

Thanks everyone for the tips. Had a nice time - the centre is small, pretty and pedestrianised so great to wander round.
- Castle was interesting. We paid to get in and went round the museums in the castle. Worth doing but you can also wander round the courtyard etc without paying
- Went to tivoili park in sunday and - part of which is a formal park and part is more wilderness and walked up small hill to a cafe on the top
- Went to the opera :)

Would recommend it for a weekend and would love to see the rest of the country.
