Question Lithium Ion Batteries.

Quick query. Do Lithium Ion batteries require a sort of wear in time. I bought a new device and the battery is OK but could be better. I have only charged it to full twice since opening it, in it's shrink wrapped box. So do Li Ion batteries need a few good charges to reach capacity? I've searched on Google with varying opinions. Just want to throw this one out on here.

Cheers.

Is it a phone?

Modern phones have initially poor battery life because the way they manage battery usage is adaptive - e.g. killing off background apps that you don't use. It takes time to learn and determine an appropriate pattern, so the first few days are poor.

I don't think there's much in the way of Li-ion chemistry that requires initial usage, but I'm not sure.

It's an Android tablet. Since that post, battery life seems to be improving.

Yes, it’s what Mauvais said. Nothing chemical going on, just software.

I had a new phone 3 days ago, it drained 41% battery overnight on the first night (which was a little alarming), then 9 on the second and last night it was just 6.

Update. I'm getting stand by times according to Battery Bot Pro app of 5 days now. So battery life is improving with every top up charge. Mauvais and Mojofilter your both definitely on to something regarding the software settling into my usage habits. Good accurate advice. Cheers.

Just for those who are curious about Battery Bot Pro, I recommend it.

that's what I thought, but I've got an Aldi Workmate cordless drill that has been superb, battery too, for must be more than 5 years now.

I checked for battery chargers on Aldi and they were sold out.

Yes, not that I've thought that they would be terrible quality, but I wouldn't be able to get spares like batteries or chargers.

It's one thing if they change the design of their razor handles/blades, more frustrating if you don't want to replace whole tools. I totally accept I may be wrong and they support them well.

It's Aldi's own brand tools isn't it?

I must confess I've always been put off buying one for that reason

Yes. It was fantastic. He is really into his work tools and found them to be great.
He has had it fully operating these last few years and the charger blew last week.

I don't remember the price but wouldn't be surprised if it worked out as cheap buying another drill with (compatible?) charger. Then he'd have a backup drill

Does the old charger have this fitting? There seem to be a few on ebay.

I showed that to him and he thinks it would be right.
They're in Manchester...
They dont seem to post to Ireland but I'll get in touch with them.
Thanks very much 👍

Yes. True. He bought 2 drills at the time and 2 chargers. Lost one charger and now the second one fizzled out.

He's literally renovated my brother's place and built a workshop for himself ovee the past few years and used the drills a LOT..
😁 he definitely got great value out of them.

I need a new lithium battery (for a tool) and ended up last week googling Why are Lithium Batteries so Expensive .
The reason is basically child slave labour in the democratic republic of congo and associated terrible things. extremely grim.
If electric cars are supposed to be the future then this (a better source for cobalt) needs to be sorted out now.

I thought all the Aldi tools were rebadged Bosch. Might be worth checking if a Bosch one would work.

I might be wrong and that's Lidl but I'm sure there's a compatible brand.

They will be contract manufactured by someone but it's unlikely to be Bosch.

It may well have been Bosch originally for Lidl but for the last few years, maybe decade, they have used this firm:

Which also sells/sources products sold under the Einhell brand.

Aldi use these firms, mainly:

I had found the workzone site when searching the product number .
It's not available according to the site.

I was hoping someone might know if one of the other lithium ion chargers on that site would work?
They all look different..
But I thought maybe on an off chance someone may have had the same problem and sorted it.

There's one on ebay in Manchester. Just going to contact them and ask if they post to Ireland.

They're all made slightly different so even though the electronics might be compatible the battery won't fit the charger. You can get 3d printed adapters to overcome this but I dont know if you'll find a suitable one easily.
