Libya - civil unrest & now NATO involvement

will you respond to my question then?

Sure. Lots of people who supported the invasion argued that, though it wasn't the ideal situation, at least Saddam has gone and Iraq has a chance at democracy now etc. That was before the insurgency and the virtual ethnic cleansing of the major cities and the sectarian civil war etc.

Yes amongst other places. it still does occasionally. There are still those who believe the overthrow of Saddam was worth the bloodshed. I had this discussion with lock n light just a few days ago on this very subject (on this thread in fact)

Any chance of a civil discussion of the third Arab dictator falling? Surely more important than pick man annoying someone.

yeh but lock & light is thick as shite and hardly someone whose take on political events ought to be sought or believed.

fair enough lock n light is clearly a massive berk though so i think its fair to just dismiss him out of hand tbh. im still not convinced the comparison is sound but i suppose we'll find out soon enough

Skys in green square .. isnt that close to the compound where Ghaddafi runs around on his golf cart ?.....and where the TV regime interviews have gone on ?

bbc news is absolutely woeful compared to sky. sky have live pictures from green square, bbc are showing that speech from the gadafi spokesman for the hundredth time

Libya_ethnic.jpg

he says that the coalition opposing gadaffi will fall apart and further conflict ensue.

takes a bastard to stay on top .. doesn't it

beeb could be in for a surprise ...sky just said that looters are heading for the journos hotel ......earn his money then

absolutely no sound of gunfire where the beebiod is ...and hes standing near an open window from the looks of it

After the fall of Saddam I predicted a civil war and sectarian bloodshed and I was told I was being too pessimistic then too.
yes, but then so did I and many others who've spent the last 6 months pointing out the differences between the 2 situations to you.

There are no foreign invaders on the ground here for people to fight against for a start.

Twitter reckons that Gaddafi was just speaking on the phone to AlJazeera Arabic, he said his house was surrounded by rebels but they told him he would be ok if he stayed put. Then he said a prayer and the sound of gunshots could be heard in the background.
