Libya - civil unrest & now NATO involvement

We will fight to the last bullet :(

shit

It's ok. The army owns most of them and they're siding with the protesters, if not already then right about now I reckon.

Would be interesting to see a body language/psychologist type have a go at interpreting this.....

Libyans listening to Saif's speech, shoes in the air.

I'm astonished. That was the most gripping bit of live tv I've watched in ages. A dictator's last plea before the chop.

Libyan ambassador in Dehli has resigned.. admits the number of people killed are in the 100s.. he says Gaddafi should go....
live now on Radio 5

BBC suggest that it may have been recorded, which makes it even more ridiculous.

Maybe to give an extra three quarters of an hour to pack.

It was long and rambling rather than fully scripted which led to a couple of slips, but mostly standard outgoing dictator rhetoric; a variation on a theme.

Pretty much predictable fare yeah. Throw blame at everyone but yourself, BBC, Al Jaz, foreigners in general, Islamists, drunks, drugs, Egyptians and Tunisians, The EU, Over enthusiastic youths, throw them all into a random pot in a bizarre conspiracy. Admit mistakes and promise democracy and dialogue while trying to keep a straight face, make vague threats of chaos, bread price rises, national break up etc. Issue increasingly laughable and empty threats of civil war and bloodshed. Make increasingly ridiculous appeals for calm.

Finally of course, the one thing that tells us he is leaving soon. Make a defiant promises to never surrender etc.

I give him 48 hours

did glenn beck write it for him ?

Presumably he knows that Switzerland will freeze his assets the moment he leaves power so I wonder whether he's trying to withdraw them as we speak.

Makes you wonder whether Switzerland has already blocked his account. Obviously they'll be wise to the "dictator transfers his funds half an hour before being deposed" trick.

Tweet rumours from Tripoli since the speech have turned ugly, including snipers and reports that the Werfalla tribe are in the streets to support Gadaffi.

Call #1: We need some intervention! It’s going to be a bloodbath
Call #2: It was a decoy, they were shooting at protesters while the speech was being aired

It's still over. Last gasp.

They are already on the backfoot. If it goes according to script more protesters will turn out tomorrow. More army will swap sides. More diplomats will resign and condemn.

*hopes*

Sh*t a load going on the BBC are saying the liberation of Benghazi will Egypt military get involved? I know they not huge fans of Libyan, protest in Tripoli.

There have been reports of aid being organised from Egypt and coming to the border, in the way of medical supplies etc, not military aid. If it's actually possible for them to get aid in there at this time is another story.
