This is really peculiar. 1935 Alan Lomax and Leadbelly re-enact the latter's release from prison. It revolves around his Goodnight Irene song, which I always find uncomfortable.

This is my favourite Leadbelly song. The best thing Nirvana ever did was their cover of this, but I love the original* and I knew it long before I heard the Nirvana version.

*There are lots of versions of this song, but I think this combination of verses and chords was original to Leadbelly (though I could easily be wrong)

I knew his first too. But Nirvana are actually covering the Mark Lanegan cover, which was 4 years before the Nirvana version (although 2 of them play on the Lanegan recording).
