That part of King's Cross is fascinating. Boudicca's army was defeated there, the area remained as fields until succumbing beneath the London dust heaps (a 'moonscape' of ash and urban waste). The canal was dug at ground level in its time, and now railway lines pass above and below it. Some of the streets of housing in that area were demolished in the 1960's but survive in shots in the film The Ladykillers.
