Jeff Bezos erases LGBTQ+ rights support and ‘equity for Black people’ from Amazon website

Serene

Slightly disgruntled
Amazon has removed LGBTQ+ rights support from its website, as the White House moves to erase equality initiatives. On his first day back in office, president Donald Trump ended the use of governmental diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) hiring and federal contracting, and Amazon has become the latest major corporation to scale back its equity programmes. Statements pledging to commit to “equity for Black people” and “LGBTQ+ rights” and any mention of “transgender” were removed from .bezos 2.jpg

This is strangely identical to the pink paper's story Jeff Bezos erases LGBTQ+ rights support from Amazon website

So what do you think about it?

Further down the report, it says this.

Walmart, Ford, Lowe’s, Harley-Davidson and Jack Daniel’s had already scrapped their DEI programmes in the face of a campaign led by right-wing pundit Robby Starbuck. McDonald’s recently announced that they were following suit.

It seems the tech billionaires are immediately showing their true colours. McDonalds of all companies are removing their DEI policies !!! ( DEI stands for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, which we define as follows: Diversity is the presence of differences in dimensions of human identity ). Can you believe that?

We must all remember forever what Mcdonalds has just done and spread the news around to anyone we know of what McDonalds are. Never ever forget what McDonald have done. I know African people at work and they go to McDonalds a lot at dinner, I will tell them about this tomorrow and have them tell their friends too.

I dont see how they care about money when they are going to lose a lot of business with this. Corporations who want to make maximum money do not insult a percentage of their regular customers.
Social media companies have more to fear from government control than social movements.

See what is happening with tick tok

This is to stay sweet with Trump

A lot of users won't care, some will moan, few will leave.

If they didn't ditch them for the shit they did already why would they for this?

Some, but they clearly figure the gains outweigh the losses. I expect there's also an element of enough firms jumping that others do so out of a combination of particularly conservative higher ups being in charge who are primed to want it to work out, not wanting to be last out the door and in the headlights of the Trump II moral panic circus, the logistics of social stampedes etc etc. All the big companies watch what the others are doing and copy each others' moves.

Depends, as other posters have rightfully observed, corporations are motivated to make money. DEI programs cost money to run, some people think they're great and some people hate them. The calculation to date was that the lost sales to people who didn't like their 'woke' stance was less than the gain in sales to people who did. Perception is shifting the other way round so it's a double win for the corporations gain back customers who don't like them being woke and save money on the programs.
It's like moving customer services overseas, you're guaranteed to lose customers but if you lose 10% of your business but save 30% of yout costs then profits are still up and that is all that matters.
If DEI programs once more become fashionable then they will be falling over themselves to set them up again whilst claiming they loved the idea all along.

It's what we always knew they'd do. Corporate loyalty to social progressivism had its value but it was simply them following the status quo on the grounds they believed it was the route of most profit. They're now doing the same thing again, new status quo.
And if you work for a company that's just ripped this stuff up, I suspect you're probably 🤷‍♀️ anyway. I mean they can do however many Pride events or whatever, but that doesn't mean any of it actually makes any difference to the people who work there.

So you are going to get these African people to boycott the 357 McDonald's restaurants in Morocco, Egypt, South Africa and Mauritius?

Top work.

Corporations reveal they only care about money and not people.

Anyone seen where the pope shits lately?

Well, quite. It’s what many have always said about corporate involvement in Pride Month. It’s insincere.

Now that American corporations are seeing what they analyse as the social tide turning against LGBTQ+ equality, they’re playing the numbers. They’re not going to risk their profits on (off the top of my head) 7% of the market.

There’s something in history about corporations playing a role in social organisation, leading to class collaboration…what was it called again?

McDonalds is following suit. I cant believe what I am reading.
Sadly all too believable from a bunch of ring-kissing capitalists. They don't want anything that goes wrong in their company to be blamed on 'DEI', after all any mis-step by a white man is just the way life goes, people are allowed to make mistakes, right? Leadership mistakes or errors or just not being able to turn the tide on historic mismanagement if they're made by anyone else is proof that people like them should never be in charge. Just common sense.

Of course, they will all claim this will harm no one, of course they'll go 'well, we'll just keep on hiring the best person for the job as always' but let's keep an eye on the statistics of who 'the best person for the job' is.... still and increasingly after this.
