Is America burning? (Black Lives Matter protests, civil unrest and riots 2020)

And now... sedition?

Barr has made the antifa movement one of his main prosecution targets, despite there being little evidence that there is an organized antifa movement.

Bill Barr reportedly suggested bringing sedition charges against protesters

Can it get any more fucked up?
ye gods.
All I will say is that if he is daft enough to go down that road, he will makie a massive plonker of himself, and hopefully all the way to the election. It will rebound on him.
But this is simply his and trump's latest authoritarian ploy to fan the flames and hate, and to weaponise protest, so as to recast the election as a law and oder election.
But it won't work. There's too much public sympathy for the protesters.

Hitler Youth is trending on Twitter.

Mostly because of Trump's announcement of his very own Hitler-Youth-like ‘patriotic’ re-education program.

It beggars belief.

"It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously." - Adolf Hitler on the Big Lie in Mein Kampf

Heiden said something similar about him:

In great questions and conflicts, every attempt at proof or deduction soon leads to ultimate beliefs beyond the realm of the demonstrable - to basic conceptions regarding the world and man; and Hitler cannot afford to speak publicly of his basic conceptions. They arise from a deep contempt of human nature and run sharply counter to the comforting self-confidence which he then was trying to instill in the masses. When he calls upon them to demonstrate their noble breed and heroic nature by staking their health and their life; he means essentially: for you rabble are worthy of nothing better, and this attitude would come out in the end if he were to pursue his conclusions, statements, exhortations, and commands, step by step, back to their sources and grounds. Actually he has never concealed his contempt of mankind, though always giving those present to understand that he was not referring to them. But he cannot well reveal and name the chief source of his contempt for humanity: his own person. The true source of his belief in human vileness is self-observation. He is so ashamed of his humanity because, as an historical phenomenon, beguiled by his own star, he expects superhuman things of himself. In the contemplation of human affairs, all logic ultimately leads back to the human individual; a logical analysis of National Socialist politics would have to end with an analysis of Hitler's person; hence Hitler's unconcious resistence to logic and factual truth.

Christ. Have seen over the last few years, the position from the right wing Americans that if you protest or even argue against the rise of racism and fascism in the US... that makes you the bigot.

Makes the head spin, this war on science, logic, history and so on.

I've come across that imbecilic argument, too. Countless times. by people who seem to think they are being oh-so-daring and intellectually sophisticated by saying it

It's great for freedom that people can fly the nazi and confederate flags unopposed. Is their viewpoint. Which I suppose is technically correct. Still you should have the legal right to do it and decency not to.

32 years ago KRS sung:
Well, seven in the morning I woke up to jog
Rushed out the door to inhale the smog
As I ran I began to wonder
Should I produce or should I tour this summer?

Well just that second I heard, "Stay where you are"
Before I could stop I was hit by a cop car
I laid on the pavement like I was hurt
Then a redneck cop jumped out with a smirk

He said, "Ah boy, you better watch where you run"
As he poked my side with the barrel of his shotgun
I said, "Officer man, I ain't do nothin"
He said, "What's that word you niggazs use, ya frontin?"

"Well ya frontin, 'cause why were you running down the street?"
At this time I had stood to my feet and said, "Wait a minute"
And that's when he did it, he hit me in the face with his gun
I wasn't with it so

I'd never heard of this guy but if he added right wing gangs such as the proud boys and patriot prayer, he'd have a point. Extreme left, extreme right.....mirror images of each other.

They are absolutely not, except in the minds of irrelevant, obsolete centrists. I am a radical socialist, and I can't think of many - if any - radical socialist militia in the US, or indeed anywhere
e2a: 'antifa' don't even exist as an organisation, it's merely a collective term for antifascist activists who are prepared to unite ideas and action, because they know that is necessary to defeat fascism. And if more such groupings had existed in germany in the 1920s and 1930s, the world might possibly have been saved a whol load of grief.

Anyone who thinks fascists, and those determined to stop them are two sides of the same coin is a) 100% part of the status quo, and has zero to offer to progressive politics, and b) someone who really hasn't either read enough history books, or thought enough about what they were reading

Quite mild, tbf.

I could have gone in more savagely - with the point that clintonians, blairites and other liberal centrists are the most useless and untrustworthy entities in politics, because if your whole worldview is based on a belief that "whose side are you on?" is now an irrelevant question - then you are automatically on the side of the Capital Elite, and they simply won't - can't - accept that.
However, Clintonians probably think such lefty rhetoric is itself obsolete!
