Is America burning? (Black Lives Matter protests, civil unrest and riots 2020)

I’ve mentioned this before but Robert Evans’ podcast It Could Happen Here is well worth a listen though it won’t help with anyone’s anxiety levels. He recorded it pre-Covid and many of the scenarios that he says could lead to civil war have already happened in the past year

I don't think most of those things are true though. Maybe about guns, but loads of people have always had guns there and spells of increased gun purchasing happen pretty often. Aside from that, I don't think there's much reason to believe the state has lost legitimacy across the majority of the country and there aren't currently any serious challenges to its authority. Not to mention a lot of these militia types seem to be acting in support of the state. I'd also question whether the police are really out of control or actually performing their function as intended. Isn't being 'out of control' part of the normal repertoire of police forces?
Totally agree, a lot if people seem to say it us heading for civil war, but between who?

When it comes down to it as much as the armed militia groups go on about opposing the state their interests (or perceived interests at least) are more or less in alignment with the state's.

They are also a pretty small minority as well in reality.

when he was talking about Civil War, what does that mean? Does he define it?
I'm not dismissive of clashes, cultural and physical, but i find it hard to picture beyond small mob skirmishes

I listened to some of that. At one point he talked about right and left armed groups finding common cause against the state, which is just bullshit. The real purpose of armed right wing groups is not to oppose the state it is to oppose the left.

What cataclysms has he predicted which have come to pass? I don't mean the precursor events, I mean big fuck off cataclysms

Yeah ACAB and all that but the US police seem to be a special breed and Trump sending feds and troops into areas like Portland in defiance of the local authorities seems to be a new development unless I am wrong.
I don't see how it suggests a country on the brink of war or a state on the verge of collapse though.

Again, give it a listen and find out for yourself. I’m no good at précis(es)

I doubt if it will get that far - the US as a nation-state is extraordinarily resilient - but there will be an almighty post-election eruption
Loads of states now extinct have been resilient. Sooner or later all will fall. I am not sure of the extent to which the conglomeration of states in the federation is a nation state (are a nation state?)

Sure it will - eventually. But we're nowhere near there, simply because too many believe in the federal entity that is the USA.
