I've always been very wary of getting the filth involved in my business - I think my dad instilled in me an awareness of the Law of Unintended Consequences . So, when I got mugged (attempted mugging) in my 20s, I didn't call the cops. Partly, admittedly, because the attempt was a useless one, and I'd stamped on one of my assailants quite a lot...to the point that questions might have been asked about who the mugger actually was .

Not sure what martial law would mean in the US (have they ever done it?), but the right to join an armed militia is in their constitution. The military would presumably be able to allow space for militias, with some presidential discretion to define which were are weren't legitimate.

Last time somebody tried to mug me I pretended to have a seizure. In the end the muggers called the cops.

The double standard is near obscene. Its ok for conservatives to gear up and go out to deal with protesters, but protesters aren't allowed to carry guns to defend themselves. The same goes for guns and race. Its ok when white people have guns, but not when anyone else has guns.
