Is America burning? (Black Lives Matter protests, civil unrest and riots 2020)

Last night in my city a gang of rioters attempted to attack a police station and threw Molotov cocktails at the cops. I fail to see how this behavior helps black people in any way. Do you think this violence advances the cause of civil rights? And the property damage I've discussed destroys the work places of ordinary people. Causing unemployment is another strange way to help black people.

I don't think these riots help the BLM much at all.
Those who want the destruction are using the BLM name in vain.

Did we mention that 93% of all BLM protests did not result in violence?

Riots are essential. Otherwise, nobody's listening. The status quo remains intact with peaceful protests. Or, such acts like bending the knee are mocked.

I think that riots reinforce something bad. I'd say that they are inevitable but not essential

It is a justified and avoidable thing that the system is causing riots, but they are have no purpose

I wrote that badly

My first thought was 'there are riots because nobody is listening' but I'm not sure if that is true because I wonder how long the riots would last if they weren't listened to. The ones in America and France and Hong Kong seem to me to be all part of some thing but we can't say what it is because we don't know

The incoherent babbling of the freaky. You're about two or three Facebook posts away from going full #Qanon I reckon
Mate, I'd like you to explain stuff to me. I'm not doing well. It probably is incoherent babbling, And still you are telling me to fuck off.

I know I come across as stupid, I am in AA, I just started, I am still drunk. I am just like you trying to understand the world. If you actually think you are better than someone then you should be nice to them

Why might people riot, rise or rebel?

Do you think there might be any issues with the system in place, that some might not be able to sit still and be model citizens?

The status quo also loves a bit of violence to justify itself. There has never been a status quo without a threat to defend itself from

Riots (and more, such as civil war) have been the primary mechanism of the achievement of enhanced rights since time immemorial. For the oppressed to win any kind of improvement in their circumstances without some kind of violent uprising is rare enough to be specifically remembered as special. Pretty much everything you think of as an important right in your life was won through large groups of people physically demonstrating they were sick of this shit and not going to take it any more.

I'm not that stupid! Riots happen when something is bad, but things don't always get better just because riots happen!

But they usually do. Politicians get complacent, and start to believe in their unlimited powers, and a serious bit of civil unrest tends to concentrate minds.

Have you heard of this big country to the east called China? Apparently they were the richest country in the world until about 200 years ago and now they are the richest country in the world again and what you say is just not true for them

There are regular riots in China that change things. Forcing factory owners to pay unpaid wages etc. The Tian'anmen protests might not have brought about democracy but they had a massive political impact. I'm not sure what your point is.

TBF, I think freakydave is flailing around a bit, and isn't really sure what his point is, either.

China seems to be getting worse and worse though. The current regime seems to be abolishing even complaint. Maybe it's just because I only watch mainstream news, but the pattern in most places seems to be that civil unrest does not manage to achieve anything because there is no plan beyond the unrest

sigh look, rather than this scattergun nonsense, where you just bounce around from unfounded claim to baseless theory, why not go and read about a few riots - look up the poll tax riots on Wikipedia, or something.

The poll tax riots in China or the ones in England 30 years ago?

How are riots in England from so long ago relevant to China in the modern world?
