Is America burning? (Black Lives Matter protests, civil unrest and riots 2020)

Ok. You can see clearly - as I do - that the current efforts, the riots/protests/whatever are not working and cannot be expected to, and so you turn to economics in default of any other good idea. Perhaps there's more to it in your mind; I have never studied socialism. I know almost nothing about that. I do know that the Chinese economy is doing pretty well, in spite of their so-called Communist leadership, and remembering as I do the Chinese starvation regimes of the 70's, when presumably they were full-on Communist as much as they could be, I'm negative on socialism in general. Capitalism brought China back; I buy that capitalism has raised a lot of boats around the world; that's as far as I think on that subject. I'm leery of socialism for that reason.

But racism, now - racism can be tackled without any economic dislocation or transitional regime or new ideals whatever. What we need is to recognize that true racism is reflected in the marriage rate of white men with black women. Once we see that, and once we see that this marriage rate is something we could change very easily, then racism will become a problem we truly own. A problem we have real responsibility for, in our own minds. Once you have the keys to the car, you have to move it. It's blocking traffic.

How did you find out about urban?

And Xi is a scumbag, isn't he?

Urban?

No, I don't like Xi any better than I do Trump. But America is a lot more like China than anyone likes to contemplate. They too have their blind nationalism, their acceptance of torture, their empire-building. But I have to say this for them: they're a lot more peaceful than we seem to be. While we've had war after war, they've been building their economy. It's not a bad thing.

Capitalism will save us?

Does Chinese peaceful phase include India and Tibetan clashes? Snuffing out democracy in Hong Kong?

It's all part of a deeply laid plot which I cannot discuss further for fear of black helicopters and men in dark, dark glasses.

I didn't say they were peaceful - I said they were more peaceful than we are. I think that's objective; do you disagree? The last war China engaged in, they fought Vietnam to a draw (I think) back in the eighties (??) It's been a while. They have very few nukes, only one aircraft carrier and that a retread purchased from Russia - hell yes they're more peaceful than us. We've killed tens if not hundreds of thousands just in Iraq. What did China kill, 20 Indians? There's really no comparison. We probably killed 20 Iraqis assassinating that one Iranian general (exaggeration).

And the penny drops!!!!

Find a different thread, or better still, start your own thread.
Give us some guide lines on the who/what/where/etc. and I'm sure that you will be able to find the response you are seeking.

quantum leaps are actually very small

sorry, just sayin :(

Tbf, quantum leaps are defined more by being distinct step changes than by size

true, but there's tangents and tangents. Socualism s a topic is s8uch a massive tangent from people getting killed by police because they are black that it's more than just a tangent - it's a whole new topic area.
The one is about racism, the other is about= the means of production, distribution and excgange.
That's no 'tangent' - that's a quantum leap.

MLK Jr and Fred Hampton (and a lot of others but they're particularly relevant here?) would disagree that racism and the political economy can be addressed separately

He was making some promising points about how racism is embedded in the structures, not just transmitted by explicit symbols and then BAM! Crazy eugenic breeding programs. What a world.
Yes, I was thinking there's the germ of an interesting discussion here, now I probably need to check myself in in case I've started a rid to Lala land without realising I boarded the bus.

The thing is that evidence is plentiful that even where you have more mixing in marriage, you still don’t remove the structural racism anyway. Brazil is the classic example. There are many reasons for this but one is that real class inequality lies underneath the racism, and that isn’t handwaved away just by changing the physical appearance of the disadvantaged. Hell, in the U.K. those with French surnames are still structurally advantaged on average 1000 years after the Norman invasion, and there is no physical difference there whatsoever.

Do you have a source for that last bit? I'd like to know more.
