In praise of Numbers

I love numbers, because without numbers you couldn't have the 1960s, and without the 1960s you couldn't have 1960s girl groups, and without 1960s girl groups you couldn't have the Marvelettes, and without the Marvelettes you couldn't have Beechwood 4-5789. A song that, by an amazing coincidence... HAS NUMBERS IN IT.

Ask anyone to name the top 50 Leeds post-punk revival bands of the mid-2000s in history, and it's quite likely that they'll mention ¡Forward, Russia! A band who loved numbers so much... that they named all their songs after numbers. Until they stopped doing it.

Ask anyone to name the top 50 Swiss grindcore bands in history, and it's quite likely that they'll mention Mumakil. A band who loved numbers so much... that they named all their songs after numbers. At least on one of their albums.

Ask anyone to name the top 50 people who self-released a one-person cybergrind EP right at the start of the pandemic in history, and it's quite likely that they'll mention Officegrinder. A person who loved numbers so much... that they named all their songs from COVID-1 to COVID-19.

What's everyone's favourite number of cigarettes to have in an ashtray?

I can't remember exactly what the theme of this song is, but I assume it's probably an upbeat ditty about how much fun it is to smoke three fags at the same time.

Used to be well into Numbers records - I've not kept up with their releases of late mind...
