Ikea meatballs and sauce recipe

I fucking love IKEA meatballs. It's basically the only place I will agree to go non-food shopping.

Can't get frozen chicken meatballs anywhere except IKEA :( They always ask if I really meant to buy the chicken ones because people are always buying them by accident apparently.

Would like to give that sauce a go as have too much double cream for ice cream in the house but I am doing spaghetti and meatballs tomorrow and don't think I can get away with serving meatballs two days in a row. Don't think it would really go with sausages.

I love ikea meatballs too but there is no chance they only contain pork and beef mince, nah. When the horsemeat scandal thing broke there was something about ikea meatballs containing reindeer and donkey and the price they knock food out for I'd be surprised if that's changed.

Donkey meat's lovely and so's horse. I used to love those 99p shepherd's pies and stuff from Sainsbury. Turns out that it was horse meat. They should have kept selling it as hostler's pie or something.

Is this available as a pdf anywhere? I'm housesharing with some "low tech" people, so being able to print off a dead tree version would help a lot. And yes, I have prayed to the Great Google, yet answer came there none.

I've tried downloading the jpeg, and then printing it, but it keeps coming out blurred

Not a pdf, but why not drop this text into a blank document and print that?

Ikea meatballs, serves 4
Ingredients
For the meatballs

  • 500g beef mince
  • 250g pork mince
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove of garlic (crushed or minced)
  • 100g breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 5 tablespoons of milk (whole milk)
  • Generous salt and pepper

For the cream sauce

  • Dash of oil
  • 40g butter
  • 40g plain flour
  • 150mL vegetable stock
  • 150mL beef stock
  • 150mL thick double cream
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
Method
Meatballs:

1. Combine beef and pork mince and mix with your fingers to break up any lumps. Add finely chopped onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg and mix. Add milk and season well with salt and pepper.

2. Shape mixture into small, round balls. Place on a clean plate, cover and store in the fridge for two hours (this will help them hold their shape whilst cooking).

3. In a frying pan, heat oil on medium heat. When hot, gently add meatballs and brown on all sides.

4. When browned, add to an ovenproof dish and cover. Place in a hot oven (180C conventional or 160C fan) and cook for a further 30 minutes.

Iconic Swedish cream sauce “grädsås”:

1. Melt 40g butter in a pan. Whisk in 40g of plain flour and stir for two mins. Add 150mL of veg stock and 150mL of beef stock and continue to stir. Add 150mL of double cream, 2 tsp of soy sauce and 1 tsp of Dijon mustard. Bring it to simmer and allow sauce to thicken.

2. When ready to eat, serve with your favourite potatoes - either creamy mash or mini new boiled potatoes. Enjoy!

Hell yes, I love Ikea meatballs so much, and the potatoes, and the cranberry sauce, and sprig of parsley they are being served with. 😋 Grew up on it.
In Germany, where they/we love these sachets of seasoned sauce that just have to be mixed up with water or cream and brought to the boil (in any supermarket, there is a whole aisle of these!), these have been available for a while:
