I Hate Macs

I used to be a Mac person but then 'turned to the Dark Side' (as my graphic designer mates say). It was really the 'bangs for the buck' thing, the availability of way more software and the customisability/buildability that did it for me.

Macs look nice and are friendlier to the IT newcomer, though. If they had every monkey on the planet fucking with the OS and making up software like PCs do I have no doubt they'd crash just as much - in that sense they benefit from being a 'minority' machine.

They always seem to have some nice OS features - I always liked the 3d graphing calculator and the GUI on the first iMacs.

I'd like to thank the OP for the shortest possible troll ever :) Congratulations - this one is always a winner!

I'd like to thank you, but I cant cus you never shut up saying idiotic sarcastic shit like this, it's lame, it really is worse than the 'gets out deckchair' 'munches on popcorn' thing.

I don't dislike Apple, but I dislike people telling me that I'm using an inferior product when they clearly haven't the slightest clue what they're on about.

Macs are great machines and some of the designs are fantastic, but they're not the best machines for my needs.

But I do know what I'm on about - I use both same platforms and you can't deny (or maybe you don't know) that OS X is vastly superior to XP. I'm not saying that the Mac is better for your needs, I'm saying it's operating system is a better OS.
And that's what I mean about your sensitivity to this issue - you like your personal platform ;)

Ugh, nowayzz

I use this - it's fine: - I just sorted my mouse with lots of grinding of ball while upside down and blowing hard... fnar

How much for something like that - looks pretty cool and since I use the computer a lot at home and at work it would be nice give my 'mouse hand' a rest when at home.

Well, it's lacking a few ingredients for a true pedigree troll. To score top marks, the poster would have to be new here and it would have been them making the controversial comments without having to refer to a current news article.

We're basically debating the contents of the newspaper article and not the poster's words, so it's not really a proper troll in my book.

I've got an A4 Wacom tablet but it doesn't look anywhere near as cool as that one on account of it being about 7 years old and rather grey in colour. Still works fine tho'

But then they're ordinary consumers who are unlikely to read specialist websites like dpreview.
i'd imagine that most people don't look at Digital Photography Preview website when looking for a computer, seeing as it's a photography site. or indeed any site like it as they'd also be photogrpahy sites...:D

The best OS for me is the one that runs all the programs I want it to run, and is compatible with the hardware I use.

And that OS, for me, is XP. And I've used both, thanks.

Could you keep your advice concerning my computing needs to yourself from now on please, because I know rather more about the topic than you.

Thanks!

Shit. Sorry. I'll be all stony faced and get out of your way.

I use an Intuos A3 plus at work - about 900 euros worth - I use a crappy wireless mouse at home, cos I no longer make proper money :( but you can get a reasonably sized one for about 250 euros I think (Ed uses one - not sure what it cost).
I wangled this one at work because I use two wide-screen monitors linked together, and when your vertical speed is half your horizontal speed it gets right annoying.

I've given no advice to you Ed, you run what you want, I'm debating the usual merits and lack thereof of both OSs on a public message board and OS X is better graphically, technically and obviously.

So put your handbag down. It's not all about you.

so ed.... were YOU 'wowed' by the advert for vista then?

I certainly weren't it looked pikey as fuck.

|Err, this all-encompassing claim appears rather inclusive to me:

"OS X is better graphically, technically and obviously."

Or are you suggesting what he really meant was, "OS X is better graphically, technically and obviously for me, in my opinion, unless your personal needs and preferences dictate a different OS which you might find better"?

I don't think I've seen the advert, but the sheer shininess of Vista truly is something to behold!

Well, absolutely.
Graphically? OSX looks better than XP and has a much nicer graphics subsystem from a developer's POV.
Technically? Well, it's got better security, better multi-tasking, better memory management (no 2GB limit), less system crashes.
Now, Obviously? Well, that depends on your POV. It's obvious that there are a bunch of factors not included in Graphically and Technically which swing it for you - most likely compatability, flexability, familiarity. Which is fine too.

I don't think IMO or IMHO is really needed on a discussion board in this day and age. Of course this is my opinion, I said it.

Or do you qualify every utterance that spouts out of your gob?
