Aren't you simply hilarious today!

Oh and change that infantile user tag now please. In fact, I'll give you a day to do it. Bye.
here we go again editor works himself up on to parplexiy about something utterly irrlevent claims he's being attacked form all sides then bans someone to make him feel better hands up if you couldn't see that coming...

what's the bet there's some bloody comment about person in wax or some such follow by more threatening or banning...

utterly bloody predictable...

Once you go to five buttons two will never be enough - they're cheap too (I paid a fiver for mine) - a mac one (if they had one) would cost you £50 and have a little light underneath it like those twatty sooped up escorts

You do realise that you can plug that mouse into a mac too don't you? it'll work without drivers. And if you think you can't expand a G5 tower easily then you're having a laugh.

I don't mind everyone having their own preference, but it's the uninformed nonsense written by some that's a little grating.

I have to use both platforms every day. There's some real ignorant nonsense on this thread.

Yeah, pimping a box is a tad puerile, though. Not to mention sad.

Tweaking what goes on inside, now, well, that's another matter. But you wouldn't really choose Mac or MS if that's what you wanted to do. You'd choose something that actually lets you in on all the secrets of its workings -- and lets you adapt those workings the way *you* want.

Christ, what an ugly, ugly ugly bunch of computers. Unless you're 16 years old. :p

I know. What to stop you getting a load of modelling glue and sticking a load of crap to the casework of your mac either?

I think I would have been too classy at 16 for those cases.

:D

You get mac modders too:

Someone actually modded their mac mini to fit inside a model of the Millennium Falcon too.

Needless to say, it looks shit. But I do quite like where they've mounted their webcam!

I sort of like this one:

You can't really expect these things to be tasteful. If you want tasteful, that's what the Macs are for. Most of the modders are just the geek-cousins of the kids who cover their card in after-market body kits.

THe biggest problem with macs is you cant upgrade them like you can with a pc - you cant just open them up and stick replace a part with something better - apple force you to buy a brand new computer each and every time.

Na - mines perfectly customisable thanks :) : http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=2CB5E8C0&nclm=MacPro

And they are clearly overpriced - I built an equiavalent of a G5 (same sized dual processor - ram etc.,) last year for exactly half the price.

Obviously, the link here is to folk who's interest is in selling the damn things. Nethertheless... the old price difference seems to be just that - a thing of the past based on this review (which is a relief for me...):
http://www.macworld.com/2006/08/features/macproprice/index.php

One bit gives away the weakness of the arguement for cheaper macs though: "... not that it’s debatably price-competitive with somewhat similar offerings from Dell (and other Windows-PC vendors); rather, it’s that the Mac Pro is the first Mac in a long, long time that is unquestionably less expensive than its Windows counterparts in the same market segment. Now I’d like to see Apple put the same effort into a mid-level, expandable machine in the $1,500 price range."

Check out the wooden custom built cases on this site:

go to "collection" - choose a model - and then go to images...all falsh based so cant link
You cant achieve results like the above with Mac because you cant buy the components seperately and build from scratch...can you?

Aside from the motherboard you can. Memory, hard drives, graphics cards are all fairly standard. The MacPro towers are ridiculously easy to upgrade

I'd suggest that you do a little research before your next uninformed missive.

Hey Garf, why don't you butt out of things that don't concern you?

She went too far and posted up an unacceptably abusive comment in her user tag. That's why she was banned.
I don't need to take that kind of shit off anyone, thanks.

Oh, I've no idea what your 'wax' comment is about.

I'm a bit out of the loop but does anyone here see that Macs and PCs are very slowly morphing into each other.

Years ago you never saw this extent of cross-compatible hardware and software, and Vista seems to look a bit Mac-like to my untutored eye.

Prices and relative firepower also seem to be converging.

Is it just me?

I know. Most price comparisons shows macs currently comparing well with branded pcs.

Of course they're not going to compete on price with niksativa's cut and shut homebuilt system, but neither are Alienware or Dell.

Still, never let the facts get in the way of some old fashioned 'macs are well expensive' stereotypes.

erm her tag has been like that for about a week certainly with enoguh interaction between the two of you for you to have previously noticed... which leads one to suggest that in fact you have no reason to flip out and ban some one for something which you have previously passed over... so what you banned her for was posting a picture of a record... on a thread where you were again getting overly het up and utter tosh and now as predicited you're throwing your wiehgt around with me...

still predictable ....

perhaps you should read the wax comment again with out steam coming out of your ears and take a fucking chill pill...

To be fair, historically, Macs have been far from open, in both the software *and* hardware departments. Remember those mercedes-benz-logo style screwheads?! What's that about -- needing a special Mac screwdriver just to open the case ffs.

It's good (in some ways*) that Macs are getting more open on the hardware, but it has been a long time coming.

* the advantage of producing your "own" hardware is that it can give a very reliable combination of os and machinery.

It was the first time I'd seen it actually, and seeing as the rest of your frothing post is a load of inaccurate bullshit, I can't be arsed to respond.

Just for the record, anyone posting up a comment that I should "suck someone's cock" in their tag line can expected to be banned. Try it yourself, if you like.

Well, maybe in the medium/high end, but I wouldn't say that's true at the very bottom end.

You can currently get ridiculously cheap PC laptops and desktops. You can buy a new HP laptop (XP, 1.4GHz 512MB 60GB DVD+/-RW 15.4" TFT WLAN ) for just £367 and a decent desktop (without monitor) for a mere £250 at ebuyer.

*Please note: this isn't meant as any kind of slurs on fine Mac machines, but is just an observation that reasonably capable PCs can be bought for bargain basement prices

That laptop is bonkers cheap
The mac mini for £400 is a pretty good deal, mind. Plus it's a good deal smaller than thw £250 ebuyer box (matters a lot to some people)

Er, yes, but I was addressing tarranau's point about pricing, not size.

There really are some astonishingly cheap PC/laptop deals - you can get an Acer AMD Turion MK-36 2.0 GHz laptop with 14.1" WXGA TFT, 512MB DDR2 , 60GB and WiFi for just £387.

And you can get an Aspire Small Form Factor PC - with ATHLON 64 3800 Dual Core CPU, 1GB of RAM, DVD dual and double layer Burner PLUS a 19" 5ms Widescreen Monitor for just £382!!!

Oops! I forgot to add VAT for just that one - it's £450 which is still as cheap as fuck for a small form factor, dual core PC with a widescreen monitor!
