Anger is Hi-NRG
Following on from

Resurrected the Hugh Laurie vehicle, House. Still only on season 1 and can't figure whether his character is engaging or obnoxious. Either way, it's not so much the character of Gregory House - it's Laurie's acting. The voice, the mannerisms, etc. You can see him acting (if that makes and sense).

The show hoovered up many awards throughout its existence, so am guessing the acclaim is deserved and he eventually settles into the role?

10 episodes in and am slightly warming to Laurie. Although irl, he'd be out on her ear for his maverick actions, casual racism etc. The illness of the week - patient not always telling the truth and one of the team having a personal investment in whether patients are to be taken seriously or not is a bit formulaic. I imagine this will evolve as the seasons continue.

Will stick with it for next and there's a Sherlock vibe about House. But its better than that.

I wish that they'd do a more realistic American hospital drama where people without adequate medical insurance were regularly either refused treatment or the on going bankruptcy of paying for massively price gouged treatments

Also, have several patients from the UK and Europe regularly highlighting how the treatment they were being charged for in the States of America were free in their countries and how appalled they were that the richest country in the world still doesn't have universal health care

That would be very interesting. The nearest critique of the system in recent years was that drama about the painkiller addiction.

They sometimes mention insurance but it is normally hand waved away to focus on the plot.

If the patient is interesting enough they find some sort of charitable fund

Christ that is depressing to write as it is feels accurate. Poor people can get treated if their sickness is interesting enough.

“Scholarships for particularly gifted diseases” would be another one for the Douglas Adams thread.

Say what you like about Casualty but in the early years, it got a lot of flack from the Tories .
