Hong Kong and the Philippines

Even though I'm half filipina...I was wondering if anyone has any great recommendations for the wet season in the Phil and Hong Kong...this August. Anyone been to Palawan? I heard it's the new Borocay

Salamat :)

All the Philippinos in HK tend to hang out under the HSBC building on HK island so there's a place to head to! ;)

Only, joking... wait for someone like Jessiedog. He'll tell you where to go. While you're waiting i'd recommend: the night markets, victoria peak, Lamma Island, ChungKing Mansions (for a curry), the Soho/bar district and the star ferry pier (just chill out, watch the lights and drink a few beers).

Palawan has lots of nickel mining.
i went to the taal volcano today, it was very very wet.
Don't stay in Makati, it's very very sterile.

Some good advice on these two threads:

If your budget is somewhere between 'luxury hotel' and 'rock-bottom' I reckon you'd be better off staying on one of the outlying islands than in the city - August is very hot and sticky here so having a beach nearby will come in handy and you'll ge a lot more than for the same price in Chungking Mansions or somewhere.

Don't know much about Palawan, but have also heard it's ace and I'm hoping to get there myself with a year or two - before it becomes another Boracay! :D

Thanks for the links :) This Chunking Mansions however, heard it's dodgy as all hell. Maybe I'm watching to much Locked Up Abroad but it seems to be the staging ground of many a drug and gold smuggling activity.

tokyo joes does a mean sushi for a great price.
in london it would cost £100s.
in HK, about £50 for 2.

and tai po markets for jook.

chung king  twas cheap tho and in a good local. hong kong  the chinese must have bargaining written into their DNA, and i scored some wicked jade that's brought be luck this whole trip :D
