Homebase in Trouble

What happened to Focus DIY Superstore? Reading this thread has suddenly put the jingle from their adverts into my head.

It was all about Payless DIY and Texas Homecare back in the day

And Fads if you lived in Sidcup

So, seeing as mine is closing anyway, cos the owners are crap, is it now ethical for me to go shoplifting in Homebase?

not sure what happened to fads. think they were based somewhere in the SE London / Kent patch, but had branches around the UK

and were charlton's first shirt sponsors, in 1981

I remember there also being one in Orpington when we moved there late 80s. But the Sidcup one (perhaps the original) lingered on perhaps past the millennium?

FADS, short for 'Furniture and Design Studio', had shops all over the place, there was one in Worthing when I first moved here, 20 odd years ago, but closed a couple years later, it's a Tesco Express now.

Apparently they moved online, the website is still up, but only displaying a holding page.

Wasn't Fads just for painting and decorating stuff or am I making that up?

i can't remember ever going in one, to be honest. parents didn't do a lot in the DIY line, and there was an ironmongers / everything shop down the road that would have been easier to get stuff back from (they never ran a car, and not sure that tins of paint were allowed on buses)

there doesn't seem to be much about fads on the web. this page has a few bits including an advert for their hastings branch

Would need to ask my dad but think it was paint and decorating stuff he got there, possibly they did furniture and tools too

A fire sale at my local store, which is closing down and becoming a branch of The Range. The staff are keeping their jobs.

40-50% off in some lines, I got a few things I need for projects next year.

This was £88 in total, the airer alone is £90 at Dunelm

Will go back for some more pots later I think
