"Holiday Village"-type holidays.

Has anyone been to a "holiday village" type holiday? We're looking to book for next year (booking early for the free child place) and we're looking at the First Choice Holiday Villages in the Algarve/Turkey/Costa Del Sol. I'm a bit put off by all the negative reviews, does anyone have any they can recommend?

It'll be me, Santino, our 2 year old and Santino's parents. We'd like to be close to a beach.

are you rich ?

The Mark Warner & neilson ones are great and plenty to do with for the kids. but well expensive.

We did a Thompson one in Majorca a couple of years ago as a late deal. It was OK, the location was a bit meh, but the kids are entertained all day long and they have a big ole stage that the kids perform on each night , showing off what they have leaned during the week.It wasnt a good fit for ours I have to admit and they were not interested in miming to gaga songs and street dancing, but each to their own

I stayed at an amazing place in Colding in Denmark recently. No beach but it opened right out onto a lake and there was free access to a fantastic water park pool thing.

if the deal is good price wise, then go for it I reckon. The childcare for the young uns is usually pretty good and theey have qualified nannies as part of their staff. I always feel the need to get out of the village/ complex personally , but having the childcare/ entertainment does give you a bit of a break to laze around. I try to find soemhwere with other things to do locally to allow us to escape.

One thought - the big campsites invariably have a Eurocamp/ Canvas holidays section and I found their kids stuff much better than the big tour operators, though if its 40c, camping isnt the easiest with a 3 year old - theres no escape from the heat, even at night

How about Eurocamp/Keycamp style ones, but in statics? My elderly parents have used them for years and my dad suffers from Parkinsons. If you can go outside of school holidays, they can work out very cheaply as well, especially as they can get things like eurotunnel tickets cheaply.

There is a Belgian place at De Haan - which is actually really decent and easy to get to ! (splash pools etc and a nice art-deco seaside /sand dune resort)
