Happy Happy Finland

Books, not bombs
Finland has been voted the happiest place in the world for the 7th consecutive year, so time for a new Finland thread.
The language appears very inaccessible but is it a great place to go and where?
I was thinking of a few days there end of August beginning of September and was thinking of Helsinki and or Turku and/or Lapland.
Helsinki, easiest to get to. Turku because it's old and looks pretty and Lapland for a remote chance of the Northern Lights.
What do people think?
PS. forgot to mention Moominland of course.

Yes it is a great place to go.
September might be better than August. Especially if you're heading into the lakes and forests as mosquitos are plentiful and annoying.

Helsinki is well worth a stay.
The Finns are quiet people but will chat with you and are friendly and helpful.

There's lots to see in Helsinki. And on the islands off Helsinki which are very accessible. Suomenlinna and Seurasaari are worth visiting.

Lots of outdoor things to do. Helsinki has a beach and lots of forested areas. The airport is in the middle of a forest.

Food is varied. You can have traditional Finnish food.. if you like fish then you might like that. Reindeer tongue is also offered. But every other cuisine is available too. I ate in Chinese, Thai, Russian and european restaurants there.
There's a few Irish pubs run by Irish emigrants too.

Easy to get around with trams, buses that run on time, trains and ferries. Weather in September would be lovely. And not so bright at night so no problems sleeping.

The people are genuinely nice. Very stoic and quiet but when you get to chat with them and show interest in their history etc.. they will open up.

Brilliant, thanks Aladdin. I cannot eat fish and Mrs tag is vegetarian 🤣
Sadly I went out with a person from Finland for a short while. Sad because I took little/ no interest in her country 🙄.
We are wanting to head North and Finland seems a less obvious choice. Walking would be good as would culture stuff.

There's plenty vegan and vegetarian food too 😁

Helsinki is really easy to get around. Loads of walking opportunities in Helsinki and the islands off it. Lots of boat trips available all along the coast and loads of walks.

I would say the Finns have a good sense of humour in a sort of self depricating way.

Porvoo is worth a visit.. to see the really old architecture.

Have a great holiday..wherever you go.
