Apols for the short notice, just made aware of this.....
*JUSTICE FOR 1A LOWER CLAPTON RD!*
*Hackney Housing Group asks you to demonstrate with us to demand rehousing
for our members this Thursday (19th January) at 9.30 am. Meet at Hackney
Town Hall. Your support is needed!

Since August 2011 Hackney Housing Group has been demanding rehousing for
residents of 1A Lower Clapton Rd, a building in the heart of Hackney where
12 rooms were let out with shared kitchens and bathrooms. A long term
member of LCAP had lived there for over two years. The conditions were so
bad that eventually the council served an enforcement order, telling the
residents they must leave because the house is unfit for human habitation.
Hackney Housing Group demonstrated at the housing office with the
residents, and won rehousing for many people. Now, two of the families who
they housed as homeless have had their applications refused. One has been
evicted with her child already, the second faces eviction on Thursday. They
will be forced to return to 1A Lower Clapton Rd, an unsafe, derelict
building with no water connection. As far as Hackney Housing Group knows no
action has been taken against the landlord, who was making over £50,000 a
year renting a derelict house to hard working residents; both families and
single people.
We demand:
*
- Immediate rehousing for all residents of 1A Lower Clapton Rd now
homeless.
- Prosecution of the landlord by the council.*
Hackney Housing Group will demonstrate at 9.30 am at Hackney Town Hall and
needs supporters throughout the day in Hackney Housing Office to ask for
rehousing for its members.
Call 07931 698 438 to find out where the group is if you come after 9.30
am, or look for us in the Hackney Service Centre, 1 Hilman St, London E8.
