Greece vs Russia

What are you watching this one one? CCTV?

I watched the last game on a German stream that was 600kb/s really good quality and I got to catch up on my German:cool:

This one I'm watching on sopcast 3865, British commentary having a hard time pronouncing the Greek players :D :D

I've heard that korean is a doddle to write though.

My students who I tutor are all korean and they say you can learn to write it in about 2 weeks as it's purely phonetic.

It's incredible that from a chinese language base, they developed a language that still looks like characters, but is actually an alphabet.

It's really easy to read and write but understanding the grammar and different ways of talking to different people of different ages and social classes are hard....

Looks like characters? Maybe a little like the simplified ones, but a girl I knew who studied Korean kept saying she was off to practice writing the 'little stick men' and I get reminded of that every time I see Korean writing.

This computer is so slow that the only source for the game I can find makes it look like a stick figure animation...

I mean that to someone western who didn't know anything about the languages, korean would appear just as much of a character-based language as chinese...

I learnt German in about 10 months!!!! I picked it up so quickly, I hated languages at school but when I was in Germany it just flowed into me, I thought it would have been the same here......:hmm: It wasn't

Nah, I reckon it'd appear more like Thai or Burmese - some completely alien alphabet - but I guess the lines got blurred a little when Mao's initiative turned many characters into simplified squiggles.

Doesn't sound like the game's that much more interesting than a discussion of the idiosyncracies of Asian writing systems...:D

Nope, but it made it look a little more like an alphabet - while removing some of the phonetic clues that make it a little bit easier to learn. Probably would have been easier for everybody if the plans to replace characters with pinyin had gone through but I'm kind of glad they didn't...
