Good American condiments & tracklements, do they exist?

I got chatting to this American woman in a bar yesterday, I was munching on a bacon butty and was a bit miffed that they didn't have any HP sauce left. Cut a long story short, this woman overheard me and recommended that I try some New York Steakhouse Sauce. Like HP sauce but spicier and richer she said.

It is disgusting. It tastes like very sweet vinegary liquorice and has no body or layers of flavours. It was as disappointing as their "yellow mustard". Is it just Heinz tomato sauce that is any good, or are their good sauces out there?

Nearly ruined my bacon butty that morning :(

BBQ Sauce is OK if it is smokey

Cocktail sauce = marie-sauce? That's British I think. Like coronation chicken.

Marie Rose sauce (known in some areas as cocktail sauce, seafood sauce, ketchyo, maychup, ketchanaise, burger sauce, fancy sauce or dip) is a Britishcondiment made from a blend of ketchup and mayonnaise, although it can have other ingredients as well. It is often used with seafood, and prawns in particular.

Wiki :hmm:

Any sort of chilli/BBQ sauce, I'd imagine. My Texan mate sent me some sweet BBQ that was fucking amazing, used the whole damn jar in a week.
