Glastonbury 2008

Saw this story today. Eavis has been going on about how he's pleased to have 'shaken up' Glastonbury

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/a97460/eavis-weve-shaken-up-glastonbury.html

"Everywhere I go kids come up to me in the street and say it's fantastic Jay-Z is playing," Eavis told the Press Association. "Lovely kids in their teens. And I say, 'Have you bought tickets?' and they say, 'No, but we're all coming!'

Erm. Doesn't the bit in bold indicate that kids are telling him that they are going to try and jump the fence? He seems quite pleased about it

Odd. He's always talking a load of old crap though isn't he? :)

I know it's bollocks but metcheck is looking much better today.

Depends whether they can get their Mums to write a note to teacher to get the time off school first :D

I love old Michael to bits but I really do wish he’d shut the fuck up sometimes. Surely even he must realise by now that the vast majority of people who will be at the festival this year have bought their tickets in spite of the line up and not because of it.

Hmmm slightly off topic and is probably a seriously stupid question but as I am a Glasto virgin I am going to ask anyways! Are the loos at Glastonbury really as bad as they are made out to be??? Would you rather use a hole in the field than have to brave them toilets or is this just over exaggerated pap?? :hmm:

I agree with yout general point but in fact there's plenty on the whole lineup all over that appeals hugely. It's principally the big headliners that are putting some people off. Admittedly my lack of bother about the headliners puts me in a minority though .

That remark of Michael's that Lisa quoted looks embarrassing anyway, no argument there ...

The long drops are generally fine, especially as you move away from the main stage areas.

The blue portable ones are another matter - some are OK, especially if you go just after they have been emptied/cleaned, but some get in a hellish state - again, the closer you get to the main stages the worse it gets.

Stick with the long drops basically :)

Hugely exaggerated IMO and in my recent experience. Therea re far more tolilets these days, and they really aren't too bad. They get cleaned/emptied regularly -- more than once a day in most cases. Try and avoid toilets very near the major attractions, where the corwds are biggest, and you should be fine. And if ('if'? :p ) it's hot, the longdrops -- open to the sky -- are less smelly than the enclosed Portaloos. Avoid looking down into the longdrops though. Or dropping your drugs/money/camera into them :D

ETA : Bees beat me to it ... the longdrops rock .

The toilets are in a much worse state at many other festivals, don't worry, you'll be fine...

Just like everyone's already mentoined, try and steer clear of the main stage portaloo's, especially at night when everyone gets a bit rowdy and careless. Follow the cleaning team round early morning (just before bed for me usually ;) ) and jump into a freshy emptied/washed/polished portaloo to do the morning business....

Or yourself.

And for christ's sake, don't be one of those people too precious to touch the seat with their arse, they're the same ones who miss as a result and leave piss and shit everywhere

Yea but your clean bumcheeks could touch something that someone elses clean bumcheeks have touched. oooo fear the almighty wrath of the bumcheeks. :D

(sorry, daft mood!)

Holes in fields are not a good idea at all. Please don't dig holes because after the festival the cows end up twisting their ankles. Long drops are much nicer than the portaloos. Best avoid anything in a main stage area though.

I tried to hover in a turdis once and nearly fell out of it because I was so pissed.

Cheers folks! long drops good, stage toilets and holes in fields very baaaad! :D

Thanks for the info Tort! Is indeed very helpful :)

Oh, and camp uphill of them, to avoid the drinking water run-off if nothing else

Keep checking William , 3 weeks out and I have started looking at every available forcast going , I am definately going to find a sunny one , I`ll let you know when I do.

I found a good one on metcheck. Not a cloud in the sky the whole time, mid/high 20's during the day, about 10 at night.

That was weeks ago of course, however I am holding that image of bright sunshine in my mind.... :D

Question for the information people here :
what time does the car park open? I have to work on Tuesday, and Im not going to be able to get to ny of the campsites before they close on Tuesday night. Bearing in mind that I want to be there at 8 when the gates open, it's back to Plan A - drive most of the way, sleep in the car / leave around 3am. So, how early is too early to arrive. Do any of you information peeps know?

Of course, if you have spare car park passes you want to give away for Tuesday night, Im only a PM away........... ;) :p :D

Officially the car parks open at 8am but you can usually get onsite a little earlier. I wouldn't aim to be there much before 7:30 however or you're likely to be moved on.

Gosh, I just had a rush of extreme jealousy for all you lucky folk who are going this year. Pennyless this year, I *vow* to be amongst you next year. Have fun!

OK thanks Tort. I'll try to time it for a little before 8 then, whatever time I leave here.

Out of interest, have you tried phoning any of the campsites re closing... just wondering whether they might be doing/considering extended hours for that night, given the event and everything?

Two interesting articles today, both based on interviews with the Eavis'

A pleasingly chin-strokey article by Peter Paphides in The Times.

And a surprisingly informative "let's cut to the chase" piece in the Sun.

(Soz no links... Posting from phone.)

Both very interesting and well worth a read

I wish I’d never said anything about the youngsters now, it was never a big statement. I do put my foot in it but I’m not bad for my age!

Bless him! :D

You could drive to the morrisons in Glastonbury town and park up and sleep there for a few hours. We waited for friends there on the wednesday morning (before the morrisons opened) and there's no barrier to prevent you getting into the car park. It's only a few miles to drive from Glastonbury town to Pilton, and if you approach the site from the Glastonbury side you'll end up in the west car parks, which are more convenient for camping in pennards / dragon :)
