Glastonbury 2008

especially given that every year there are literally hundreds of programmes left on the pallets by the gates anyway

uncovered in the rain

I'm dreading it, all the fun and enthusiasm i had about it being a great year is ebbing away and its looking like being sheer hard work again, even if it doesnt rain over the weekend its been raining for days here and everything is soggy, the river's the highest i've seen it. so it might be muddy on site if it doesnt dry out.

but it will still be fun. i just dont fancy trudging. . . but i have new boots!

wiskers

The Met office are as good an authority as you can get. Serious users of weather data, such as aviation, use them exclusively. The Met office will not do day-by-day predictions this far out, and for good reason.

What Metcheck is doing is taking daily forecast data from a supplier, and then not aggregating it for longer term forecasts. This means they show you day by day forecasts that aren't so much inaccurate, more totally irrelevent.

One user of Met office data did this rather deceptive trick a few years ago, and the Met office duly cut them off for misusing their data.

When it gets down to about the 5 day range, it's possible that Metcheck will be reasonably accurate. Right now though, it's as good as flipping a coin.

Yes, new boots. I am a bit loath to replace my very sturdy boots and 100% (so far) water proof, but they are very heavy to wear...

The voice of sense on weather!

Metcheck are meaningless this far out.

No-one really knows what the weather in the very last week of June (still over three weeks away!!!) will be like. I certainly don't and I've been checking far too many sources

Wiskey, I'm depressed about current rain too (we've just had our much anticipated Sunrise Celebration washed out, and we SAW what those downpours were like last Thursday especially, around Yeovil and Glastonbury).

Not sensible though to project future prospects from current conditions -- if the weather picks up in the next two weeks, and there's every chance it could, that would improve our mood and optimisim no end! :)

There's no inevitability at all about the end of June being like the beginning. Maybe we're getting this year's rain over early? You never know!

For now, crossing fingers will work as well as anything else ... :p

I thought that too. Not if it rains enough though eh :D

I was looking at that earlier - those of you who saw it then, check it again now. Vastly improved! :)
absolutely - currently predictions are changing for the same day as the day progresses - lots of fronts that are being a bit odd

I don't think I could disagree with you more about the met office, certainly the stuff that joe public sees - I can't remember the last time they were even vaguely about right

BUT this time of year the weather isn't settled yet - not by a long way - so yep keep checking :)

or do what we do and ignore it anyway, take layers and a waterproof and have a ball :D

*flips coins until they land sunny side up more often than not - then stops!!*

Well............ I reckon that's got as good a chance of working as anything else! :D

Here's better news, the Met office 6-15 day forecast.
High pressure is expected to dominate the weather across many parts of England and Wales throughout the forecast period, especially southern and eastern parts of England. In these areas it will be mainly dry with plenty of sunshine, light winds and only the odd isolated shower. These settled conditions will also extend into Scotland and Northern Ireland at times, although in general northern and western parts of the United Kingdom are at greater risk of seeing bands of cloud and rain from time to time. The temperature will in general be around or above the average for June, although it will be locally very warm in the sunnier spots in central, southern and eastern areas.

Doesn't bring us up to the festi but that will dry it out.

Kinda funny but dominated by

The mud.

>That< mud. Fucking hell, even now a year on. The Green peace girl gave me shivers when she started walking. The body language of every one there as well. Look how fucked up it all is.

The Glastonbury hole ones are quite funny. :)

That was a bit depressing though, it just looks so cold. :(

Stop worrying about the weather! :D

There's nothing we can do about it, we'll all be taking wellies and waterproofs anyway, worrying won't achieve anything but cloud the excitement of the build up. Cmon you lot, this is supposed to be something aweome!

Plus it's gonna be sunny anywhoo. :p

But it wasn't awesome last year, it was wet and cold and took 2 hours to get anywhere. I'm fine as long as my feet aren't cold and last year they were freezing. :(

Better be fucking sunny, I want a drunken relaxed weekend.

No, come on YOU!

Please don't try and pretend that it makes no difference whatsoever to your enjoyment levels whether it's a dry sunny one or a total mudbath.

Of course most people will go well prepared with waterproofs, boots, etc., of course people still enjoy themselves even in bad conditions**,. but that's not the fucking point is it? ... sparklefish is right!

Lets not get in denial about this, rain and mud, especially on last years scale, is SHITE.

**In spite of, not because of the rain and mud though!

We're owed!

I'm not in denial, I'm in full agreement, rain and mud IS shite. My point is, weather forecasts at thier best are unreliable and usually bloody useless. I've got no issues with people checking long range forecasts for a *vague* idea of how it's gonna be, how saturated the site will be etc etc etc.

All I'm saying is why bitch and moan about something we have abolutely no control over when it achieves absolutely nothing? We're all going, whatever the weather, it'll be more than being here as far as I'm concerned..

Forget the weather, get excited! ;)

Yeah, sorry ...

Bit of a sore point I spose, ahem .. :p ... like others (but more extremely so!) I am so desparate for a sunny one thisn time, or at least dry. Which is stupid, because I can't do anything about whether it rains or shines, but somehow I just can't help checking thsoe forecasts!!!

<slopes off .. :hmm:>
