Glastonbury 2008

OK, looks the place to head for is called "Old Oaks" (http://www.theoldoaks.co.uk/). There's a bunch of festival folk staying there. They have sort of the same plan as you - be there for gate opening. So you can rise with the larks and all that.

A bunch of them will have already been out to the pub by the time you arrive, but I reckon that could work ok... cheery faces on arrival. And they're not too pissed, you might even trust them to help put your tent up. :)

There's also the Isle of Avalon campsite as well. We stayed there the Monday and Tuesday night before the festival last year. Reasonably priced, about a 15-minute walk from town, they do food, have an onsite shop and the toilet/shower block is immaculate!

I don't think Im going to be able to get there before they close. :(

I won't be able to get away from home until at least 7 I expect, possibly later. 10.30 is the last arrival, certainly for Old Oaks (couldn't find it for Isle of Avalon but I can't see it being much different tbh)

In that case, get some kip and leave in the middle of the night. :)

Thats like............ 3. am. In the morning. That's not a real time of the day, it's only a time of the night before. :(

Still might drive part way & sleep in the car en route somewhere.

On the bright side, I bought some boots yesterday and tested them in today's rain and puddles. My feet were warm, and dry. (as they should be, for the price!) One small sore bit on one of my newly odd-shaped ankle bones, a bit of wear and/or plasters will sort that out. Plenty more rain - ie testing weather - to come. :D

Our tickets are here!!!! Royal Mail!!!!!

I was fully expecting the usual shambolic delivery but if it's had been announced they were using Royal Mail this year I hadn't noticed.

My picture is hideous. :(

Look back in the thread and find Torts FAQ, a must read.

potato tent pegs.

what's the deal?

are we all supposed to buy our own or does Michael provide them or what? If the latter, do we turn up without the old fashioned metal sort and trust that a) there really will be some; and b) that they will work.

Let's face it, we're going to look very, very silly if every tent on the site gets blight and falls over :hmm:

They are providing potato tent pegs this year. Prolly be in the bags. Your not meant to bring them but as I'm not going to start separating things out of the tent bags I will continue to bring them, just not use them if the ones they offer are 1/2 decent.

I bought some of those biodegradable ones from millets, they look like they'll work.............. and Yes I know they're handing them out at Glastonbury but you can never have too many tent pegs! I've always disliked the idea of leaving metal tent pegs behind, in the ground. Ever trodden on one? Bloody painful!

in the bags! hmmm. one of the joys of working there is that you don't get a bag/programme/guide etc. Least, we don't- maybe other crews do?

I have visions of this going as pearshaped as the coaches last year... people lugging tents for miles across site to discover that they've only got half the pegs they need and having to join huge queues for extra pegs, then discovering they dissolve when under a few measly inches of prime zummerzet mud.

I think I'll take the steel pegs and try to smuggle them past the metal detectors.

T'website tells you to leave them at home, cos you'll get the spud ones with your programme. I'd be tempted to take a packet of Smash in your rucksack so you can improvise something if it all goes wrong.

if not why not? :)

Suppose so. I've never really thought about it I suppose. Metal tent pegs stay in car then, until my tent falls down cos the biodegradeable ones fall apart. I was just going to leave them in my tent bag & not use them but I refuse to be without my tent!

glad it's not just me. I've just found the bit on the website (cheers moose) that says leave your pegs at home, we'll give you some with your programme. Which is all very well, but every year we have a game trying to blag a programme from here, a guide from there and so on. Usually succeed, but it's not always certain (some Oxfam stewards take life way, way too seriously :) ) and tent pegs is of a very different level of seriousness than a list of bands to hang round your neck.

I really, really, really hope these things don't dissolve if it rains!

I'm taking my tent pegs with me just in case but will happily use the potato ones if they work. We've got quite a big tent so I'm not sure there will be enough.

oh yeah, don't get me wrong. I'll be very happy to use them if the organisation is good enough to actually have them on monday we we arrive* and they work.

* tbh on previous form I'm not going to hold my breath on that, but we're always sorted by Wednesday morning

I remember the year I didn't take loo roll because they were giving it away. It was that stuff that had song lyrics or something all over it so every fucker was collecting it for souvenirs.

I would imagine that there are a few more pressing items to get right on the Monday than tent pegs.

for me, pegs for my tent is high on the list :)

those greenstake pegs don't look like they're intended to be reusable- once in the ground they'll be very hard to get out again.

I'm not going so it dosen't affect me, but if I was there is no way on this earth I'd go without taking my own proper pegs.

Nor me - I have extra heavy duty ones that I would hate to be without!

Surely they aren't having metal detectors - there are too many other legitimate items that might be metallic - or am I just being too gullible:confused:

Just had it officially confirmed in writing :D that Deb and I will both be part of the Festival Information Crew this year.

YAY!!!

We knew we were in really, our deposit cheques were cashed ages ago, but it's nice to be 100% certain.

Off to Pilton on Sunday 15th for training .... paolo999, I will be in contact very soon as our plans for that weekend have altered somewhat ....
