Glastonbury 2008

I like Glastonbury but when they decide to knock it on the head I hope to goodness nobody tries to resurrect it in some other form. Just leave it be, all good things come to an end eventually.

I do agree with this.

I'm also pretty sure though, that Glastonbury will continue at least until 2010. The licence is lined up until that year. A gap year is likely in 2011 (following the usual gap every four years pattern) and my own speculation is, that the Eavises between them will either call an end to it then, or (drama!) announce an end to its natural life 42 years after the first one (1970).

Or engage in a serious rethink about how the old monster could/would continue from 2012 onwards.

A rethink that may already be starting ....

I also think (speculatively) that if the fest is to continue, a complete Mean Fiddler/'Festival Republic' buyout is pretty unlikely, far less likely than something along the lines of a family/festival trust, with some of the existing area organisers involved ....

ETA : Admittedly, that last bit of speculation is not entirely original ....

The photograph I used last year has been rejected this year. I am going to complain on Monday, has anyone got a number?

From what I remember from last year, they take so long to sort these out that the advice is to just re-register ASAP with a new pic.

In other news:

"Hello again. I just wanted to set the record straight about a few stories that have been flying around this morning, about this year being the last Festival. I never said - or even insinuated - that this would be the last. What I did say, was that we treat every year like it's the last, in terms of energy and enthusiasm, rather than thinking about it in terms of a ten year business plan. It's amazing how these things get twisted!

Anyway, as we said yesterday, you can now register to buy tickets for the next three years; and we certainly wouldn't be doing that if this were the last Festival. Hopefully we will be able to continue Glastonbury for a long time yet!

In the meantime, let's focus on this year, which is looking likely to be a really special one.

Emily Eavis"

Well, there's at least 10 people who have tickets already - they were giving them away at an Orange PR event I was working at today

I also learnt that there were over 3 million txts sent over the course of last years festival

Does anyone know how one would go about getting a disableds pass if such a thing does exist, and if it does do you have to be all legit and registered as such. I dunno if they have viewing platforms or anything at glasto either

They have them for people camping in the disabled camp site.

But it looks like the festival home page took a dive

fuck that then, theres no way I'm sleepin in a tent next to one fulla downs kids, have u heard the fuckin noise they make.

Find out properly though tp yeah?? I wouldn't just assume from dd's post above that you HAVE to stay in a designated spot -- necessarily.

I don't know much about this area, but I've very vaguely heard that the oirganisers can be/might be accomodating. Worth at least doing the research I'd say -- perhaps with a detailed email outlining your particular needs/wants**?? -- good luck.

**best not request free medicinal weed at this stage tho'! :p

I shall have a look init  if I forget I'll be burdening yous lot with my mischevious antics, unless someone wants to hire me to skin up for them.

This is your best bet for info - Glastonbury On Wheels! It's written by Flash Wilson who is a disabled Glastonbury regular as well as a moderator on what used to be the official message boards for the festival. If there is anything else you need to know you can contact her via the contact link.

Yes, by ditching all the charity work, GREENPEACE and OXFAM in big letters all over the main stage etc.

Then seperate the camping from the performance areas. Search and remove alcohol. Rename it "the [Sponsors Name] Glastonbury Festival". Get rid of the greenfields - traders like burger vans will pay more the pitch space.

Shift it all to the Bath & Wells showground - less expense in compensating residential neighbours, clean up less complicated because it's not a farm.

Charge additional price for programme. Charge additional price for turning up on the 'early' day.

etc etc.

I do actually have a repeat nightmare where I go to Glastonbury and its in a different place. Its horrible. I still haven't figured out quite which cheese triggers it... If the above were to happen it would be a travesty of epic proportions...

On hearing that Orange had given their first 10 tickets away

Is it possible to get more corporate than that?

Excellent pwnage!!! :p :D

My colleague and her sister registered yesterday. They were assigned something just above the number 100,000,000 I think, from what she said -- which presumably translates in reality to somewhere just over 100,000???

Can this be right ?

Sort of on course for a fairly sane rate of registration -- given a surge in early March as you go up to the 14 March deadline, maybe there'll be somewhere around a <2 to 3> to 1 thing of registrations to tickets ... </inarticulate speculation  :p >

Unlikely. Online registrations start at 1,000,001. Postal ones start at 10,000,001. Same as last year. As of this morning current online totals are still only at 86k & increasing by less than 3,000 a day.

OK, will recheck with my colleague, she's bit scatty and may have got her number wrong ...

My decision about whether to risk going into labour at Glastonbury has been solved by the fact that we didn't get our stall, despite being the first to apply *shakes fist at Mean Fiddler*, so you won't be hearing my screams echoing across the Green Fields :(
