If you're going to go to Glasto, then spending 5 days in the Greenfields is probably the most pleasant way of doing it. I've got some mates who do that - arriving early, leaving late, and it's like they're at a different festie to most of the people in babylon.
That's what I used to do as well - stay in the Greenfields, and pop down once or twice to see someone I really wanted to see, like Orbital, or Underworld.
vast
and , imo, counterproductive. I'd personally prefer the views of the anti's to take hold amongst the populace at large. I'd like it to be thought of as a seething mass of commercialisation, sold out long ago, with the filthiest toilets, the muddiest swamps and the drunkenest middleclass wannabe minority of minorities on the planet. Unfit, in other words, for anyone to aspire to go to, whether they be young and trendy, old and grouchy or of the been there, done that, washed the car with the tshirt variety. I want a mass movement to protest about the wastage of license-payers money in broadcasting hours of bands and vacuous dj's. I want people who understand this stuff to whinge mightily about how appalling the line-up is, and how no-one could possibly imagine being in the same field as any of the headliners. I want a tide of complaint, led by those whose criticisms are informed by personal experience and by those who know only what they read on teletext, about the corruption of the youth of the nation, both from the perspective of the Daily Mail (bring back National Service) and from Class War (tear down the fence). I want Eavis reviled as a self serving capitalist pig, his daughter laughed at in gossip columns and all the corporate organisations involved exposed for the arms dealers and exploiters they so obviously are. I want to see ever greater detail about the mass of Health & Safety Nazi regulations and patronising nannying. I'd like to see every organisational problem exposed as a symbol of absolute failure to live up to the dream. I want every weather forecast to show the end of June to be wet & miserable. Most of all I want everybody to chorus that it ain't like it used to be and there's no point in going.
with not a single voice, anywhere, to support the festival in any way at all.
then maybe they'll all bugger off and leave us to have our festival in peace.

I’ve never been particularly interested in the Pyramid Stage headliners and haven’t seen a single one since the Chemical Brothers played in 2000. But nevertheless I’ve always supported the idea of not announcing the line up until after the tickets have been sold so that you don’t get a massive increase in numbers of people who are only interested in coming along to see one or two acts.

But seeing as the Eavis’s have broken with tradition by announcing all 3 headliners so early - and the cynical among us would say that this is a panic response to a 40%-50% reduction in registrations during the first week – does anybody actually think that any of the headliners will be a major draw to people who wouldn’t otherwise have considered coming to the festival in the same way as Radiohead, Oasis, Roger Waters etc have been in the recent past? I just can’t see the festival being flooded with hundreds of Jay Z fans & I think it’s far more likely that a lot of people will just view him as being a bit of a curiosity rather than the primary reason for attending.
There certainly hasn’t been any noticeable surge in registrations since the announcement. From a personal perspective the 3 acts that have been announced don’t float my boat any more or less than the majority that have gone before them but I just really can’t see this as being a particularly clever move as it could potentially alienate a lot more people who are line-up whores than it actually attracts. On the other hand if I was going this year I’d probably view this as a good thing because you’ll get a higher percentage of people wanting to be there despite the line up rather than because of it.
Damn it I might just end up going after all if that were the case…

This looks more fun:
Porthcawl Elvis Festival 2008
Following the success of the last four years, and claiming to be Europe's biggest gathering of Elvis artistes and their fans, this event offers 3 days of fun and music all over the normally sleepy seaside town of Porthcawl, roughly halfway between Cardiff and Newport.
The programme is likely to include an official Festival Launch on Friday with a champagne reception and the chance to meet the artists and celebrities, plus an Elvis Disco Party until around 1am.
Saturday is expected to include the Best Festival Elvis Competition and an award show for Elvis Tribute Artists followed by an Elvis Disco Party into the early hours. On Sunday, the Chat Show, Up Close and Personal, with Elvis celebrities, might be repeated. Other events take place across the afternoon and into the evening culminating in an Elvis-themed party.
A VIP ticket package (around £95) is available with admission to all official shows, reserved, prime floorshow seats, T-Shirt, entry to the Pavilion VIP Bar and invitations to aftershow parties on all three nights.
Not exactly Macca is it..
To be fair he is a massive name in the Hip hop / rnb scene. His Blueprint album reguarly appears on lists of greatest ever hip hop albums etc.
He's certainly not your normal glasto act but I suspect he will put on a great show. That being said I wouldent traipse across a mile and half of Worthy Farm quickmud to see him.
It's not as good as it used to be.
You won't have to
Is that bet on?It will be sooooo muddy you won't get on site.
I'm wobbling! I even told the bloke whose stag weekend I'm supposed to be going on that I probably won't make it as it clashes with Glastonbury.
Forgot to mention dates
25-30th June..
