Glastonbury 2008

Ah the wet mud vibe I hear so much about!

That must make it all worthwhile.

That and the kings of leon. :D;)

I actually know fuck all about the Kings of Leon, are they rubbish?

OK get yer bet where yer banter is TC -- A WHOLE 2 PINTS  on Glastonbury 2008 being predominantly dry this year. The odd shower between sunshine only resulting in some very temporary 'soft ground'. OR BETTER, and I win, enough rain for there to be widespread actual mud and pictures of miserable people huddling under canopies and umbrellas in wellies and waterproofs** etc., , and you do.

**Extra surprise bonus if you win, for any solid mud head people/naked loons diving into mud people, in photographs ,...

I think I'm going to win 2 pints ... :p

I won't go back to Glasto untill it's like the old days with hot knife stalls and hash sellers, sound systems a plenty, hells angels flogging cheap beer, all night parties, skanky traveller kids running amok, Eavis letting in poor people for nothing, no police at all on site and Hawkwind playing on the main stage complete with that very big girl dancer.

Only then I tell thee will the sunshine return.

There's going to be themed Glastonbury anniversary year soon!!! :p :D

;)

Whatever happened to 'Stacia' anyway?

Don't quite agree. I think last year's mud as an offputting factor for many is significant, I've said so, but I also DO think the slow pace of registration -- after 4 days only!!!!! -- has a lot to do, as well, with people getting more used to the system. I'd hold back on drawing too many conclusions til after March 14th.

I'd share yours and Tort's prediction that registrations will be down, just think you can't judge by how much yet with over a month still left to go.

I wasn't predicting anything! Just relaying what I understand to be fact. & my calendar says it was the 7th yesterday rather than the 4th.

However , what I do know is that the number of registration increased exponentially at the end of Feb last year & a considerable proportion continued to register after the original deadline was extended by a week. No doubt there will be a similar glut this year as the deadline approaches.

On the other hand I wouldn't anticipate anything like the number of multiple registrations this year as people understand the system better this year. So less registrations won't necessarily equate to less people wanting tickets.

Do they normally officially announce the headliners and various others this early?

Here's a gratuitous picture of Stacia for TopCat

Top work, chuck!

Having read that, I feel I've had my fix and definitely don't need to go now :D

Results are indicative and may not reflect public opinion

I see the BBC News sites poll is showing a lack of enthusiasm to Glasto, but then the results are indicative and may not reflect public opinion

Watched 'Glastonbury The Movie**' (1993) last night.

**ie the FILM, in normal UK language ..

Has anyone seen this film? Was anyone there that year? Remarkably sunny!!!

If 1993 was as sunny and dry and warm as appears from that 'movie', then they must have been thinking after 1993, 1994, 1995 had gone, that a hot sunny dry Glasto was inevitable ;)

In reality, neither sunny nor mudbath is inevitable ..... take your chances folks!

William whether you like it or not Glastonbury festival is very much a minority interest.

chymaera whether you like it or not this is a thread about Glastonbury so I made the assumption that people with no interest in the festival would not bother to post. Clearly I was wrong.

I was thinking the other day about the conditions that would have to be met before I'd go back to Pilton for that festival. Even with an oversized Winnebago with a fully stocked larder/cellar/stashkit, a chef, butler and some kind of futuristic personal hovercraft device, and every band I've ever liked featuring, I'd have qualms.

Have to agree & also that those who express an opinion that it is way past its sell by date are not necessarily trolling!

I would make no such comment. I do find it odd though than since the new ticketing regime the numbers trying to get a ticket have gone down from 2million to 400000.

Why is it a closed community thread? Comments were made about a poll which I thought warranted a reply.
Far from being a "minority interest" Glastonbury is the world's largest green-field arts and music festival, attracting some of the biggest acts on the planet, and attended by tens of thousands of people and watched by millions more on TV.

Not necessarily ;)

See my earlier posts -- I have plenty of respect for your position and for where you're coming from -- I do understand why some have stopped going. Good valid reasons etc.

However I don't think comments from someone who's never been in his entire life and is only in this thread to check out wooden spoon useability, are worth more than a row of beans though.

It is still a minority interest no matter how you try and big it up.
