Glastonbury 2008

Blimey, I just emailed round who we camped with last year and out of about 15 or so only 1 is registering and he's not sure if he's up for it :(

Mud, Babies and Mortgages are being given as reasons not to go.

I know a few glast virgins who are up for it this year  and I'm determinted to take my little bro to prove to him that it is not the indie fest he sees on the telly.

TBH the mud issue is the main thing that's really stopping me being enthused about going this year. Really don't know if I can be arsed to feel like I've been running a marathon just to go to the feckin loos and back to the tent, y'know?

The mud was a bit of a pain last year, however I don't have that many bad memories of it. I just kept myself in a mildy lubricated/high state most of the weekend, had the right clothing and once I'd fallen over in it once I didn't really care about it happening again, and it did quite frequently between saturday night and monday morning

I'm used to mud at Glast though, every time I've been it's been bloody muddy.

The mud really got to my gf on the sunday though, she passed out in the the tent in the middle of the afternoon and woke up just as the Chems were finishing on the Other stage. She wasn't getting as cained as the rest of us though and was very pissed off that we didn't go back to wake her up.

Ooooh, the controversy the Glastonbury issue is causing in the Scumbalina household  Should we do a stall, bearing in mind I could go into labour about that time and have to give birth in a field full of muddy hippies 9veering towards a no on that one)? Should Mr S do a stall and if I pop try and get back straight away (hmmmm...that's not gonna be stressful, oh no..)? Or should we be sensible and stay at home (boring for all concerned :()?

Don't forget Whiley! She must buuuurn!! :D

She should be first on the pyre, in fact!

STOP plugging it on Radio 1 (no I don't listen BTW) so the dedicated and clued-up among us stand a chance. YOU just turn up with your press pass and waltz in, the rest of us have to go through the rigmarole of booking tickets or applying for work.

I really thought Glastonbury would be a hard habit to break. But it's not. It was fun. It's not anymore. It's mainstream, bland and full of drunks with attitude. Not going back. No Sirree!

How do you know that this year won't be fun? I'm going to register and decide later to go or not but my decision will only be based on who's playing. Mainstream isn't a problem as there's lot's going on away from the main stage and as for drunks, I'll no doubt be one of 'em :D

Has it stopped??

Well TOS is pointing people at commercial operations:

"www.cashandtrafficmanagement.com employ car parking staff between the Sunday before the Festival until the Monday after the Festival – staff are required to work a minimum of four 12 hour shifts. Similarly www.dcsiteservices.com employ staff to assist with running the campervan and caravan fields. They also supply checkers at vehicle gates and staff the onsite vehicle chaperone service."

Your kid would think it was so damn cool to be born at Glasto! But I agree, it's hardly the nicest place for you! :D

Wouldn't it be something though if they did? I bet everyone of the drop outs would then go :D

Oi Will, don't diss Tony Bennet man....he was my favourite act that year.

Through the muddy haze and grey Somerset drizzle, a silver suited perma-tanned legend appeared on stage, started singing 'Raindrops keep falling on my head' and lo and behold the Sun shone for the first time all weekend. If he'd played on Friday aftrenoon, there would have been no mud or rain, only beautiful sunshine!

One of my favourite Glasto moments of all time

OK, soz, Mr B is/was very much OK by comparison to Mr D ......

As for Leonard Cohen....there's not many younger acts I'd choose to see over him. I'd like to see him do a double act with Nick Cave. He's a living legend (and sadly needs the money due to criminal management)

Laughing Len for Glasto...That's what I say!

"Informed sources" ;) are near certain the Lenster will appear ... :)

Neil Diamond sucks arse though:hmm:

I await an explanation of the MOR-man's apparant popularity among so very many .....

Nah, they're great, but they're of their time and place. They're middle aged men now, and haven't made new music in ages. It'd be great to see whatever theatrics they get in, but otherwise you may as well stick the white room on and watch a really good lightshow.

Oooh toughie scumba  .

Is your exact due date Glastonbury weekend? If so, bad planning man!!! :p

Some factors. You won't be involved in all the ticket buying hassle, and you sound very likely to have stall/associated crew entry rights lined up whatever. So you can decide really LATE, on the basis of really-close-to-festival weather foreecasts amongst other factors. Ie have back up crew lined up, the fest needs your stall anyway ;)

If the weather is good (likely :D ) and you do end up being there, the facilities for on site births, which have happened at many Glastos for many people, are pretty good, as professional as you'll get anywhere. So give your future kid those extra coolness-points!!

Contact Festival Medical Services for direct advice -- not being a pregnant mum or a very ill person I don't know how -- right now ;) -- to find their contact details, but I'm sure they ARE contactable in advance.

And failing Glastonbury, there's always Strawberry Fair on 7 June, and this time your truck will work!

:( :(

Nothing wrong with middle aged men attempting to stay cool and only partially failing ... ;)

Stick a pill up your arse and you'd love it. ;)

Ahhh missed that one .... :(

Need thinking time, and a pint with my Oxfam man in the Battersea Beer Festival on Friday, before I can decide what to think ...

proceeds to ignore issue :p

CORRECT ANSWER!! :p :D

slightly edited ;)

According to the stattos on ex-TOS the number of registrations received so far is barely half what it was at the same stage last year.

what is TOS? i don't understand!

i've discovered that my one and only exam is on the 16th of june, so i'm free to work glastonbury if possible. but i really can't decide if i want to. bearing in mind i haven't been since 2000, and have never been to a muddy one- the concept of glastonbury being a glorious weekend of loveliness was so deeply entrenched in my swede by 2000 that i didn't even bother taking a tent. :D i don't know whether i should just leave my memories of glastonbury of yore in the Special Place in my mind, or go for it (especially considering i actually now know people who live in glastonbury town and could feasibly escape to their houses for showers and warmth if needs be). has it changed too much in the last 8 years? decisions, decisions.

I haven't registered yet. I probably will, but im not sure if Im going to buy a ticket. Not that I didn't have a great time last year, but my finances might be a bit more tight this summer and there are other festivals I'd rather spend the money on. It feels weird not being desparately excited about going, but I'm just not now. Of course if I can wrangle playing somewhere (not completlely unlikely hopefully!) then it will be a whole different situation!
