Glastonbury 2008

Well, i'm back! A whole week away on the site, utterly bonkers, but utterly awesome. That was one of the best glasto's i've ever been to.

Anyway, my bath is running, and i have some still warm hot mulled cider from the cider bus to finish off, in a bit y'all!

oh fuck sake bbc why have they cut the verve off and instead just chatting shite stupid fucks, its alright saying its great but what would be great is actually seeing the live show...

edit: Finally those two have gone.

The lighting rigs on both the Pyramid and Other stages look fantastic, top marks to whoever put them in.

I see the other stage has big screens this year - about bloody time!

That's what they always do. I think that iPlayer is the place to go this year.

I'm actually really enjoying The Verve, which has surprised me somewhat, Ashcrofts voice is a lot better than I remembered, and it really does look fantastic...

wow. The Verve were amazing (on the telly!). And Mark Ronson was  and I found myself really loving the Pigeon Detectives.

Groove Armada totally ROCKED!!!!!!

re: Badgers/amy/packed... It was rammed. I decided to sneak out via backstage, because the public side of our info tent was a tad busy.

Up at the farm now. May well stay an extra night. All good. :)

Guh! Missed the verve. Went over to trash city... Bloody fab.

Site is winding down now. Donna Summer's I Feel Love I'd wafting up the hill. No idea where from. :)

Was it '99 the fence got kicked down? Remember being overwhelmed by the size of the crowd at REM that year

I think the fence went down a lot of times but 2000 was when the council said 'enough is enough' as the site was overwhelmed.

I know Winehouse is a big draw because of her press attention but a bigger draw than Bowie with free access to site? I recall reading that over 200k were on site in 2000.

Yeah its one of my pet hates since I started watching years ago. On friday you would be able to hear REM or whoever in the background as the presenters waffled away. Play the the tunes while there live motherfuckers.

I was on the stage when David Bowie played in 2000.

Far bigger crowd than the one for Jay Z, it stands to reason, 250 thousand minimum.

Glorious weather for the exit day. Bus station is a polar opposite to last year. Really well organized, lots of people sleeping in the sun having turned up early for their buses. People are in good spirits, despite an early start for many.

Morning! :)How are you getting home? How long will it take you?

Well, having watched a fair bit of it on the telly, I reckon I'd have had a great time if I'd been there. After the mud dried up, it looked like a really good laugh and enough genuinely good acts (Raconteurs, Seasick Steve, Massive Attack, Kings Of Leon) on an otherwise dire bill to keep me entertained. And obviously there would've been shitloads of stuff going on that the BBC don't cover. Glastonbury's managed to hang in there, I reckon.

The Verve sounded good although I do wish Richard Ashcroft would get rid of all that Liam Gallagher 'Come on!' posturing. It doesn't really do them any favours if they want to be taken seriously as a current act rather than a 90's throwback who've just reformed for the money. And the new song's shite, particularly if you play it right after 'Bittersweet Symphony'. Compare and contrast. Actually, don't. Nick is still a really unique guitarist, mind. I don't know anyone else that has that sound.

Anyhow, if I'm around and the finances look alright I've decided I'll give it another go next year. I think they'll sort the line-up out a bit more next year - despite all the comments to the contrary, they've got to admit that the poor lineup was a factor in the ticket sales. You can't blame it all on the weather. It'll be interesting to see what bands they come up with next year - and how tickets sell.

I'm glad this year's been a success. I really feared that we'd lost Glastonbury forever.

And they all went to watch Bowie? I'd be very surprised if that was the case....

As I recall, it didn't clash with anything significant.

And there was a massive crowd there, as anyone who was there will attest to.

I failed to count them all though, Paulie, I lost count at about 4568...

I'm back, and have just slept for umpteen hours, and now need to get all my photos online somehow. And put my head back together ready for work tomorrow.. And go and buy a massive steak.

Hmm, maybe i'll do that now then answer questions on return!

Just got back. Had an amazing time, the best for years. Yesterday was just fantastic. I'm tanned, chilled and a bit sad to be home. A total contrast to last year!!

Am going for a huge bubble bath then will post more. :)
