hmm - just been for a look and realised I'm out of date - looks like the entire glade music stage has shifted to the dance village anyway,

How do you know this, have you found a site map or something?

not to any great degree (and anyway, you've only been going 5 minutes ;) :p)

More aimed at old lags who go on about how great it was back in the day, without consideering quite how thick their rose tinted spectacles have become with myopia.

bit of a general rant really

if that was aimed at me, I didn't say it wasn't as good, nor did I say that anything has changed for the worse

what I said was "fuck that sounds awful"

see, just a statement

besides which I'm not sure I can afford to go this year, its great fun though

The more people like you and Lisa and other old schoolers pull out (even more), the more the site WILL be monopolised by Readingesqe 'festival' goers (inverted commas deliberate).

Fuck that. I'm still going and I'm going to get difficult!!!! :p

Yeah, I get your drift, but I'm also deeply suspicious of the ID cards scheme, have a really long-standing love of the tipi (IT'S TIPI, DAMMIT) field, and rarely if ever venture out of the green bits, so I suspect the move will take away something that i've always felt was a bit magical about the event.

Way I see it at this stage, there's other festivals where peeps like me can:
1. Get into easier
2. Walk around easier
3. Get a good vibe - easier
and
4. Get on/off site without planning an extra day each side of the gig for the queues
5. And get change from £200 (inc. travel).

So I'm favouring Beatiful Days; Guilfest and Bestival - three events each of which offer some of the overall vibe this one likes. And if Shambala happens, well I liked it there a lot too.

Having said that, it's inevitable a way to Worthy Farm will be found, and in answer to a previous poster, am sure a good time will be had, but I don't like the way it's going...

...though it is possible the tipi people wanted to be moved, as it was very noisy there last year, and it's a peaceful place that everyone who knows about it tries to go to during the gig, and people probably still will.

Ho Hum. ID cards and moving the tipi field. Sometimes change is good, but sometimes isn't.

mind you, the possibility has to be considered that it actually was better in the 'old days'.  :D

But if you're only looking back to 1989 then you wouldn't really know would you :p

not that it matters, now is now. Which is to say, January and it's grey, dingy and drizzling outside and any chatter about the long days, short, exciting nights and general wonderfulness of a midsummer festival is a great relief. :)

Would agree with Beautiful Days. Have always been put off Guilfest by William's experiences there a few years ago & although Bestival is a big old fancy dress party there's not much else to it other than that & the music by all accounts. Other than Shambala, have you considered Sunrise Celebration or Big Green Gathering? Those are basically the festivals where you will find a lot of the Greenfields crew doing their thing away from Pilton. Plenty of tipis too if that's your thing. :)

The only time I've ever been in the tipi field a mad woman was getting people to hold hands and mumble some shite about the earth goddess.

I left as fast as I could :D

In the last couple of times, it's seemed more like a short cut/toilet for Lost Vagueness, so maybe they did ask to be moved.

Yeah I like the sound of those as well, given free choice, no cimmitments and a pot of money (or a way to earn while being there), I'd be at one every fortnight (ain't got the stamina for one a week these days),

I do want to speak up for Guilfest. I've always had a fab time, and lost a wallet with a bunch of money in it once there. It was handed back, intact, not a penny missing, the very next day.

That's a real recommendation for the event in my book.

Ah sorry didn't know you were speaking from experience re Guilfest.

Had a similar experience at Knockengorroch last year when I lost my car keys. Now Knockengorroch Farm is nearly 400 miles from home, 4 miles down a bumpy farm track, 30 miles from the nearest decent sized town (Castle Douglas) and has no mobile phone signal. To say I was starting to panic was an understatement ... until I found a note under my wipers telling me I'd left them in the car door & they'd been safely deposited at the info tent.

nope just had a look at the glasto site from last time and it said the main glade outdoor stage had moved to the dance village, leaving the glade space as more of an arti installation space with music going off at 12.30 or something... so from that I took it that while the space called the glade was still there, the main music part of it had shifted to the dance village.

dunno coz I took that year off to go to scotland and help a bunch of hippies take on 12,000 riot police, just going off the website.

There were 2 stages at The Glade last time round & one of them was probably the biggest stage they've had there. Photo here. They still had dance acts like Shpongle playing during the day but more in the way of ambient stuff at night. The "G Stage" was the one that moved into the Dance Area & was supposed to have more of the dance stuff that used to go on at The Glade but afraid I only really made one brief daytime visit due to the mud. It's all bound to change again this year anyway ;)

I can't wait for the moment when I spot a drunk or spangled urbanite happily bouncing around the games field.

*Hopes it's dubversion* :D

The year that I was there in me tipi, I'll have you know that I raised the standards :p ;)

Got a forecast for us yet WoW? :D

Hot and sunny daytime throughout, 27C max temps with a very light breeze, mild and balmy nighttime throughout, no difficult winds, no rain, no mud ...

your five+ months-ahead forecast can go down as well as up, the closer you get to your event!! :p ;) :D

you might be right, sad to say. they were a bit, not isolated as such, but not really integrated.

i can't think of the word i want, but it's like everything moved except them and they were kind of cast aside
