Gift Cards

Another group I'm on have had a whip round to help a member out over Xmas and I have £400 to get to her.... Is there a gift card that works in multiple places? We can't see one obvious supermarket where she lives or we'd just get a voucher for there.

Any ideas?

You can buy mastercard gift cards but they take a cut eg. you pay £105 for a £100 card.

Hmm. My old work gave me an Amex pre paid gift card and I have never managed to get it to work online

she's going through a divorce so we'd rather not put it in her account, and it's a surprise. However I think we've decided to paypal it.

I've used these before, you can get them at the Post Office.

Remember that gift cards are generally dangerous; if the provider goes bust, you're just another creditor and you'll get nothing /almost nothing back.

and IIRC some of the major retail *malls* have "gift cards" valid in most of their shops.
