Seeing as every Brockwell park festival is getting its own thread, I thought I should put one up for the Gala festival.

It's being billed as more of a fete, although there's a big music line up.

A Fete of independent music, food and drink. GALA will bring together the very best of South London’s restaurants, bars and parties for one day only. Set against the backdrop of Brockwell Park, expect a feast for all the senses with plenty of fun and games thrown in. We’re turning the classic village Fete on its head, giving this age-old tradition an injection of 2016.

Keeping you dancing we have the area’s best known parties on board to sprinkle some serious vibes over Brockwell Park. Across two stages, our music partners will support a host of internationally recognised DJ’s and artists to get you grooving into the festival season.

All the chefs and restaurants joining us at GALA have amassed huge recognition in recent times and are undoubtedly at the forefront of the South-London food scene. Each will create a unique, seasonal and never-before-seen offering for GALA. Stay tuned over the coming weeks to find out more….

To ensure merriment throughout, we’ve invited the official GALA sponsors Aperol, two much-loved breweries plus a couple of well-known mixologists to fuel the days activities. Sip on summer-inspired cocktails and our very-own bespoke-brewed ale, The “GALA Smooth Rider” made especially for the occasion by Wylam.

Your summer starts here.........

Gala at Brockwell Park
Tickets £27.50 or £32.50 (early bird £15 tickets have sold out)

I met the guy behind this and he told me that some of the profits were going to Friends of Brockwell Park and other local concerns although I can't see anything on their website about that: GALA, A Fete of independent music, food and drink.

I'm hearing a fair few complaints about the bar queues today. I was supposed to go and take pics but the organiser failed to sort out a press pass, as promised.

Seemed to go on pretty late which is unusual for a festival in park. As far loo queue's go, it was quite a small site, maybe they didn't want to flood with toilets !

there was police helicopter over tulse hill/brockwell pk last night , really annoying, seemed to hover for ages , don't know if it was todo with the festival site?

Many are describing it as the worst festival they've ever been to. People were queuing up for refunds way before the festival was over.

Gala Festival in Brockwell Park described as “the worst festival ever” by disgruntled customers

They've finally posted a comment on their Facebook page but it has something of a politician's air about it:
We just want to thank all those who came down and supported the first ever GALA, and thank all those who have left feedback, both positive and negative.

We have no intention of hiding from the fact that there were issues with the event, namely the the queues at the three main pinch points: the toilets, the credit dispensers, and the bars. We are saddened and disappointed about this, and the fact that something so simple clearly had a negative effect on some peoples GALA experience.

When as much work has gone into an event as our team put into GALA, to see people not enjoying themselves affects us personally and all we can say is that the issues weren't down to a lack of effort in the planning stages, but down to in-experience from our team. This is an issue that will be addressed and corrected for the next event in 2017.

Having said all this we still feel like the event was a positive experience for a lot of people, with an intimate feel, great sound and brilliant sets from Crazy P, Nightmares on Wax, Tornado Wallace, Norman Jay and every single artist involved.
To avoid any confusion we want to say that all of our suppliers performed their duties to an excellent degree and we we're extremely happy with them. The issues were down to oversights from our management team and we will shoulder the responsibility for that.

We plan on dealing with every complaint, piece of feedback, and any general comments directly and personally. It's important to us that anyone who feels like they need to voice anything has an avenue to speak directly to our management team so we have set up an email address for you to contact us on
The word they're missing is "sorry."

Is anybody chancing it this year?

I know I really shouldn't be going considering the reviews of last year, but the temptation of disco in the sun was too much.

Now looks like the weather's going to be bunk.

Piss up in a fucking brewery. Half hour wait for drinks at every bar; how do these people tie their shoelaces?

Yeah the sound was decent for a park festival! Music was on point, but the bar queues were ridiculous... with the rain I was trying to get drunk but it was a task.

I did get *a* photo, I sort of forgot later on though!

Edit: And a video:
