I said I would start a thread for this and didn't.

Fast train out of St Pancras takes 50 mins but comes with fast train prices, not too bad if you have a network card (£26 return iirc.).

Making the effort as it's a new ground and I would definitely have gone if it had been on the original Saturday scheduled.

Probably won't have time for a pub before - Folkestone has a good reputation for drinking venues - but if anyone has one feel free to share....

I'm going to miss this one now, as I won't get away from work before 5pm and don't really fancy just going straight to the ground and back. It's £27.20 with a railcard discount from Stratford International on HS1, and even if you go on the slower route from London Bridge you'll need to come back via Stratford.

Firkin Alehouse is my personal favourite place to drink in Folkestone, although it seems to have moved to different premises across the road since my last visit. Unfortunately all the best pubs are in the opposite direction to the ground.

You should be able to make the 2201 train home from Folkestone West, which is certainly no further walking distance than the Central station and therefore buys you a couple of extra minutes. If the worst comes to the worst and you miss it, there's a Shepherd Neame pub (The Nailbox) next to Folkestone West station to kill time before the final train an hour later! It's only a 46 minutes journey time to Stratford.

Invicta fan here in peace.

Folkestone West is only about 5 mins walk to the ground (it's closer than most of the parking near the ground). All HS1 trains stop (or are supposed to) at West as well as Central. As Central is about a 30 mins walk to the ground then it's a no brainer.

Our clubhouse has been refurbished since our new board took over last year and is pretty impressive: The Dugout Sports Bar and Kitchen in Folkestone So even if you can't make any local pubs, this is a sure fire winner. Arguably we are a pub with a team attached (some performances this season have been pub team level appearently ;) ).
If you want to see how this development progressed have a look at my website 2020-present | Cheriton Road Football Ground | England (NB page needs updating as I've got content in there twice).

It's a shame that you wont have too much time in Folkestone as the harbour area would definitely be of interest to you. Home

By the way, do you know if you are going to have match commentary? (I'm a Folkestone expat so useful to know these things).

I was looking forward to this until someone posted the away form league table in the other thread. And before it started snowing!

Ah well, got to be in it to win it. Can't be worse than the Hendon performance...

I'd been to the new location on the other side of the road and only know the signs of the original place. The ales were definitely worth the visit and the regulars said the new location didn't really make a difference. The ground (I especially liked the terracing at the far end with the tree in the middle) was in a walkable distance and their club shop is something else. Everybody who travels tonight: enjoy the evening!

We went to the new place all to nah. It used to be across the road when we were last in the Isthmian League. The pub owner was telling us how the landlord tried to massively increase his rent, so didn't renew and got the cheaper and bigger place opposite. He then went back to him and said he could have old place at same rate and he told him to stuff it. The old place was still empty when we were there. A rare story of tenant getting one over on a landlord (like Al Crane too).

Had posted above but I think it's waiting approval (has links in it - all safe).

In short: get off at Folkestone West if travelling by train. 5 mins to ground and our newly refurbished clubhouse the Dugout (terrible name IMO) is pretty good now.
