i know that a thread like this sorts out the men from the boys.....well it doesnt really, because there aint many that are Syd fans on the scale that I am.

Lots of you probably love him as much as i do though. And i know and appreciate though that many of you out there do love Syd and appreciate him as a brilliant songwriter.

so if i really, had to pick one song that i think is the best in terms of bona fide genius and brilliance, you all know that every song he wrote was drenched in genius and brilliance.....lets be humble though and everyone is tickled a bit pink by Syd....I do love Octopus but i think maybe the best 'song' is 'Waving my arms in the air'

you?

The one sure consistent thing about good old Syd is that as a songwriter, every single song is reassuredly outstanding - and completely different from anything else he did before.

'Baby Lemonade?'

i always think then of 'Dominoes'

that song must be one of the most perfect songs ever written.

Don't know any

have a look on youtube, have a really good listen. I realised that Syd is one of the very best ever, when i did. You wont be disppointed.

most music lovers on Urban adore Syd like i do. He is the absolute unspoken holy grail of good songwriting in lots of ways.

Can't choose. Both his solo albums are good, and his work with Pink Floyd makes up for a lot of the quality tunes in the band's catalogue.

I'll go with Late Night at the moment.

I should think Arnold Lane . he was certainly unique but his problems overtook his greatness

i've got a bike you can ride it if you like it's got a bell that rings and things that make it look good i'd give it to you if i could but i borrowed it.

it's impossible to pick an all-time favourite, but for now I'll go with 'jugband blues'. there's a zen air of acceptance of all things, including his own mental dissolution, that appeals to me these days

otherwise, 'no good trying'

i have never heard of anyone that has heard of his Bob Dylan Blues (and in my opinion it is hidden from the world, complete genius). my god!

A nice little song, but it's hardly an obscurity these days; it's been on The Best of Syd Barrett since 2001! ;)

*removes Sex Pistols, inserts Syd*

with Floyd:
See Emily Play, Arnold Lane, Jugband Blues
+ wondering into ubergeek boot territorry: Vegetable Man & Scream thy Last Scream (singing mice and all ) ;

solo: (most of The Madcaps Laughs, & second half of Barrett - hard to pick individual tracks because most of them seem to work more as part of the whole flowing into each other )
overal favourites I guess are: Dark Globe, Octopus, Bob Dylan Blues (it's on the best of cd Wouldn't You Miss Me so not really that hidden - well not since Dave let it out his sock drawer so Barrett would get some royallties)

I've listened to Dark Globe too many times and it still has the power to choke me up - fucking stunning

See Emily Play / Scarecrow and Arnold Lane.

Pink Floyd were  when they started out as was poor old Sid.
Never cared for the later stuff (except Money)

No Man's land

(I used to sing "love You" and "Here we go" at parties if someone produced a guitar - but they're silly songs :))

I know a mouse
And he hasn't got a house
I don't know why
I call him Gerald
He's getting rather old
But he's a good mouse

Lol.

err, Dark Globe probably.

What song's that from? it's inspired! :D

You're the sort of girl that fits into my world i'll give you anything everything if you want things

Is Bike off Relics :) .

The two tracks that stand out from when i saw them though were Saucerful of Secrets and Set the Controls ...

I was flicking through YouTube at the Syd Barrett stuff on there - there's some really creepy stuff along the lines of, I've got a camera so I'm going to find out where Syd lives and stalk him.
