Favourite Road In Brixton.

Yes, but mews are now mostly private residences. You can park in them, you can drive through some of them, some are dead ends, so I want to know whether they're streets or roads or thoroughfares or what. This is important. Orang Utan needs to know

eta: OU has already stated that mews are "little" streets, so that's that sorted.

What about cul-de-sacs?
They're all streets! Stop asking!
Only motorways aren't streets

The square I used to live in is definitely a street, but I grant that a question mark hovers over the square in this matter

actually forgot to mention Brixton Station Road...I really like that road/street.. whatever - because I love coming down the tunnel from the Rec and BOOM into some thumping music, tons of smells and all kinds of people everywhere. It's always brilliant.

Here's someone's definition

To answer this question, we must first realize what streets are NOT. Streets are NOT roads. Roads are designed to connect two places (towns, cities, neighborhoods, etc.) They are meant for transportation, typically via a motor vehicle. Roads do not contain, or sparsely contain, homes, stores, and businesses.

In contrast, streets are located within towns, cities, and neighborhoods, and provide much more than transportation. Streets are lined with homes, store fronts, and businesses. Streets are intended as a public place where people can mingle, conduct business, live, and play. Despite what your mother says about playing in the streets, actual streets are great for playing. If this seems like a crazy concept to you, I will point you to the following three videos.

Now that we've hashed out roads and streets, what about the alleys, avenues, boulevards, circles, courts, drives, expressways, highways, lanes, parkways, paths, places, squares, terraces, trails, ways and other roadway name suffixes we use? Here are some select definitions (that aren't always followed):

An avenue is traditionally a straight road with a line of trees or shrubs running along each side, which emphasize arrival at a landscape or architectural feature.
*
A boulevard is usually a widened, multi-lane arterial street with a median and landscaping between the curbs and sidewalks on either side.
*
A court is a short street that ends as a cul de sac.
*
A drive can be short for driveway, a private road for local access to one, or a small group of structures. Other times it refers to meandering, rather than straight, roads and highways.
*
An expressway is a divided highway meant for high-speed traffic.
*
A freeway is a road designed for safe high-speed traffic through the elimination of intersections at the same grade or level.
*
A highway is a main road intended for travel between destinations like cities and towns.
*
A lane is a narrow road or street usually lacking a shoulder or a median.
*
A way is a minor street off a road in a town.

What about Hills OU?

Box Hill is a hill with a road so it must be a street.

It rests that I asked about favourite roads. I have no time further time to discuss the ins and outs. As I typed earlier, if someone wants to start Your Favourite Street then cool.

I off out for a walk down the Avenue, then continue on into a Rue (as I'm in France) then a Place.

No boulevards? :(

Blame OU for this thread disruption

For some reason, the thread title irritates me. It should be 'favourite STREET in Brixton'. Don't ask me why though.
