Fake tan recommendations

Hellsbells

World's best procrastinator
I'm going on holiday soon and would like to look half decent in summer clothes/swimming costume etc (Not been out of jeans and boots all summer here!). Overall my skin is fairly pale, I get freckles, my arms kind of get a bit brown and the rest of me tends to go blotchy red in the sun  My skin is also ultra sensitive and I easily get rashes and spots, dry skin, greasy skin, pretty much anything going really
Someone at work has suggested St Tropez gradual tinted tan. I've been reading reviews and am not sure though. I think I need some kind of mild tinted body lotion type thing but I just have nightmares about blotchy orange streaks.

Can anyone recommend something that might work for me?
Thanks :)

I recommend you enjoy your holiday, without worrying what you look like.
Brilliant, that's the way to do it Athos, a bit of shame and condemnation works wonders.

Hellsbells if you've got more than a week left before you go and don't really fancy taking smelly brown liquid on hols you might try something like Gatineu tan accelerating lotion, which you put on before sun exposure (like startng a while before your holiday) and after. It works and it smells nice and you never get streaky bits because its not a dye. Expensive though.

Ouch. Sounds good but don't want to spend that much!

Actually - just seen some cheaper versions. I've got 3 weeks before the holiday.

Yeah. I don't know what the ingredient(s?) is that makes it work but maybe try a different less silly-priced version of same thing. But don't forget to use sun cream once you're in the sun too, obviously, this stuff seems to make your risk of burning increase too.

Also, sensitive skin + fake tanning products are not gointo be a good combo. A little sun on the skin with a good protector/accelerator might actually be just what you need.

The St tropez gradual tan is pretty good but it's expensive. However it doesn't have the horrible fake tan stink. In terms of colour I'm not sure it's any better than Dove tbh. I've also used the Palmer's cocoa butter one but that does smell and the light/medium colour is noticeably darker than the others I've used, so you'll need to be careful that you don't get orange feet etc.

Utterly bizarre. Nothing I said could be reasonably be interpreted as shaming or condemnation. It was a serious suggestion, made in good faith. But, whatever.

You seriously thought you were suggesting something helpful that for some mysterious reason hadn't occurred to Hellsbells ? Ok.

I thought maybe it'd give her pause for thought. Particularly as it's not a great idea for someone with sensitive skin to be plastering it with cosmetics unnecessarily. But, you think what you like.

I use the St Tropez gradual one and it works well for me. I don't wear make up (except a little bit at work) and I feel it helps me look a bit healthier in summer. Also I spend a lot of time outdoors and tend to go red so it just calms it down a bit.

You can tell someone they're beautiful exactly as they are and bolster their confidence nicely without condescending them for the way they feel.

God, if only we'd all just get over the beauty standards imposed on us we'd be fine

I agree. But I don't think I did so. If the OP tells me I have, I'll gladly apologise.

fwiw i'd go for a spray tan option, quicker, easier, and can be done a couple days before you go, but costs more, and you're less likely to streak.

I've yet to come across any kind of fake tan, that doesn't have some kind of fake tan smell, despite what they say.

Don't bother.... honestly once you see the Brits with leathery wrinkly skin covered in baby oil, it'll make you feel happy to be pale.

If you go for the 'professional' spray thing just beware of the weird paper knickers they give you: I got it done once (once only) and ended up with a giant lopsided white triangle on half of my bum, which caused much comic amusement whilst on holiday but wasn't really the look i was going for.:facepalm:

I'd go for a spray tan - it'll be even and it doesn't cost much more (£20).

I don't care about the white triangle on my bum either because my bum is inside my bikini :)
