Will Red Bull sign new Concorde agreement
Red Bull motorsport boss Helmut Marko is calling on F1 to introduce an independent engine supplier as soon as possible, claiming the future of the energy drinks teams is uncertain without it. He wants the FIA and Liberty Media to announce before the end of this year that they will allow an independent power-unit supplier to enter F1 by 2021, claiming it is "critical for the Red Bull team and to the sport". In an interview he said "The latest must be 2021 that an independent engine supplier comes into F1. This is more than necessary and the engine has to be simple, noisy and on the cost side below 10 million. We are talking about a much less sophisticated engine to what we have now, a simple racing engine. There are enough companies around that could supply. So we expect from the new owners together with the FIA to find a solution at the latest by the end of this season. If that doesn't happen our stay in F1 is not secured".
Marko speaks for Red Bull Sport and not just the Red Bull F1 team, he is also talking about Toro Rosso (STR). While Ross Brawn and the FIA are currently looking at the formula as a whole and regulation past 2020, Marko's comments will have an impact on the thinking. Brawn has already made it clear that he along with his team want to look at the financially viability of power-units whilst also retaining there relevancy with the automotive industry. Dietrich Mateschitz the owner of both Red Bull and Toro Rosso (he now owns 100% of Toro Rosso having brought-out Gerhard Berger's stake in the team) has also made it clear that he wants an independent power-unit supplier involved in F1, so they have considerable leverage.
Max Verstappen has apologized to Brazilian people
Storm in a tea-cup in my view, but in this politically correct would you just can't say things like that. Believing he had been held up by Massa in the final round of qualifying for the Bahrain Grand Prix, Verstappen was asked by a journalist if he planned to speak to Massa about the incident, Verstappen answered "Well, he's a Brazilian, so there's not much to discuss". This comment has caused some "passionate discussion" in Brazil as many people looked at it as a racist comment. Well Max has now apologized, saying “I feel like I need to clarify my remarks that were made after this weekend’s qualifying session, Being a passionate racer, I was very disappointed with my last stint and gave an emotional reaction that was taken out of context. By no means did I mean to insult the Brazilian people who I greatly respect and are always very nice to me when I visit the country. One of the highlights of my career was last year’s Brazilian GP and it was extra special to do this in the country that brought us legendary drivers such as Senna, Fittipaldi and Piquet. I would like to apologise to any Brazilians that feel offended and look forward to racing in your country again”.
Renault 2027 concept F1 car
While they should be putting all their efforts into their 2017 car and power-unit, Renault have designed what they believe is a vision of how formula one cars will look in 2027. It features four-wheel-drive, LED wheels to display information, a see-through cockpit and strikingly sleek aero. They also appear to think that drives will have almost fully clear helmets. While the LED lights may look good at the couple of night races I'm not sure anyone would notice at other races.
