Exchanging French Francs?

Well, it depends where you try. If you just wandered into a laundrette or a branch of Halfords and waved a fistful of francs at someone then I'm not surprised that it didn't work. But the banknotes are redeemable at face value until the middle of February, so clearly there are going to be intermediaries who will take them off your hands.

Actually, why bother explaining this to you? Send me the banknotes and I'll post you some magic beans. How's that?

We found some in a drawer about 2 years ago - about a tenners worth - no problem changing them in a Paris bank.

No, I went to a bureau de change. So you may as well just send me the magic beans.

Even in France i bet they´d be a bit fussy in some places.

Big bank branches would though, not read the link but february sounds about right. You got enough of them to make it worthwhile?
