European Super League (again)

Cheers

I mean, in a way even that's pretty brazen; "our priorities are about expansion and profit, not local fans we've already got".

I suspect this is why the Clubs have either said nothing or said nothing beyond the bland statement issued by the ESL. To do so would inflame their 'legacy support' further. Plus, at this point, they will want to negotiate with UEFA and others to see if they can't all agree that this is a good idea (i.e. carve the money up to cut them in) after all..

Go an read another book you boring cunt,

Christ, can't you go and post up some data from the Food and Drink Federation as 'proof' of something? All you've got to say is 'won't someone mention the neoliberals' as though it's an effective lampooning of some arcane academic/theoretical argument rather than the blindingly obvious economic process at work here.

You don’t get it do you. The fans don’t like the idea, but they control the club. That’s why the fans control the club.

you dont get do you? the rule makes it impossible for board members and CEOs to do as they please.

I'm very proud of the stance taken by me and my wife in 2005.so many who stopped regularly attending Manchester united games after the Glazer
takeover.but i'm amazed that after 16 years the grief of what we've lost still hits me every now and then.
Barcelona 26th may 1999was the greatest night of my football live.the past never stops calling in my fantasy i remember their faces, not only of that team
but more importantly of the people from many many years of following united.memories of people and places ,i miss them all.
sometimes it catches you like that and the grief still hurts, but at fc united of Manchester's doing nothing else, it is most certainly keeping The dream
alive, the game will never be over.

Guardian claims to have found the 'justification document' hidden away in the website code:

Written in that strange estate agent language. A strong and vibrant brand, enhancing the value of the experience to the customer with the added versatility of an occasional bedroom or even home office.

I predict/hope there will be a rebellion by some of the players.
If Klopp won't have it I'm sure some of the more principled ones (yeah right) won't either

Klopp just spoke on the monday night footy programme. He was guarded and didn't give much away, but reading between the lines (a) he didn't know about it before the announcement, no-one from the club had spoken to him, and (b) not a fan. Spoke honestly about integrity of competition, that it's exciting to have West Ham in the mix for the top 4.

If anything, I think the one thing that Liverpool (the board) have achieved is successfully appoint Jurgen Klopp as Bayern Munich manager in the summer.

seems arsenal didn't tell arteta or the players either

“We will try to focus on the game. I heard that there are warm-up shirts [made by Leeds, with ‘EARN IT’ on one side and ‘FOOTBALL IS FOR THE FANS’ on the other]. We will not wear them, we cannot. But if somebody thinks they have to remind us that you have to earn the right to play in the Champions League, that’s a joke, a real joke, and it makes me angry. They have put them in our dressing-room. If it was Leeds’ idea, thank you very much. Nobody has to remind us, maybe they should remind themselves.”

I think you can guess who....

The only reason Spurs are there is that it ensures that there are only 14 clubs in epl not involved which makes getting the 75% vote impossible to force the clubs out.

If they were cunning the 14 would suggest expelling Man Utd alone without telling the others that they'd get rid of the rest when Utd had gone.

I mean nobody could object to expelling Man Utd.

Oh he's angry with Leeds is he?

Leaving aside the truth - the creation of a cartel, the protection of profit from football, the creation of a product without real meaning, and the chance to offset covid and other losses - their argument is this:

  • football spends too much time listening to 'legacy fans'
  • football is global and not local
  • the ECL and the UEFA Cup (or Europa League) are legacy competition's
  • fans wants to watch the best teams play each other, with the best players and the clubs rich enough and powerful enough to make it happen
  • this is about the global fan base and supporters of the future. A multi-media platform will allow fans across the world to cheer their team on as they play other teams with a global network of fans and clubs can maximise this revenue via their own media platforms
  • in some, unspecified, way the money swilled into the ESL will find its way down the ladder

I think that about covers it.

Ah, so it’s a plan to make the rich richer, but it’s ok because some of those riches will then trickle down to the poorer, so everyone’s a winner?

Excellent, I can’t see that not working at all.
