AS pointed the camera and he performed - perfect timing. :D

It was quite wonderful - particularly as we were just all trying to get him to smile! :D

Btw, there's a few people I promised photos whose board names I know and emails I don't - I'll be in touch soon. :)

This is a lovely pic!

isn't it just? :)

Ace!! :)

Great pics Crispy and AS!

Thanks :)

This year I hadn't had any time to learn all the settings like aperture, shutter speed and sensitivity. It was all about gaining confidence and getting good with speedily using a manual focus. Will be interesting seeing how much the photos improve next year; although I don't really see how you can use all those settings and speedily get good, spontaneous shots!

I think the first thing I need to master is contrast in light and shaded scenes.

You could probably use a standard type setting for most spontaneous shots but you might need to think about light etc. every now and then to tweak your settings . I'd say keep a steady shutter speed but change aperture with light conditions for your spontaneous shots and be more adventurous with planned shots !

Brilliant photos, crispy and sparrow! there's even a good one of me in there - I'm nicking that. :D *changes profile mugshot*

Thing is, modern SLR cameras have excellent auto modes that can 'recognise' what you're taking, so even on auto you can get perfectly exposed photos. You still need some talent to frame and snap the photos though, and you and Crispy seem to be off to a flying start!

It's good to learn a bit about manual exposure settings though as you'll be able to take over when things aren't coming out right and introduce effects that you prefer (I'd be happy to give you a quick tutorial if you want one).

AUTO tended to want to prioritise bright backgrounds over dark foregrounds. Fillin flash is just distracting, so I guess for those sort of shots you want to override and not care about overexposed backgrounds.

Anyway, this isn't the photography tips thread!

I forgot to mention that the kids area was really excellent this year (even if some urbanites did hog the hula hoops :) )
