Yeah, salisbury. It's crazy cheap if you book through megatrain.
The site is close enough for a shared taxi to be worthwhile, or it's a short walk to the A-road and you can thumb a lift off a passing hippyvan

Bus from Salisbury to the site - they add a special bus-stop for the duration of the festival, and have annunciators on the busses.

The prospect may seem horrifying for going to a festival, but flying to either Bristol or Southampton is looking seriously competitive to rail & I presume that for Bristol anyway, Train connections will be good? Any idea how accessable it is from Southampton?
southampton to salisbury is quick and easy by rail.

Thanks, for both Bristol & Southampton info - Flights to Southampton are quite a bit dearer than the train so Train or via Bristol would be the more likely.

I'm planning to either helicopter in or parachute.

Some of my mates were seriously planning to use a helicopter in one of their mad shows at Glastonbury a few years ago, but they weren't allowed due to health & safety... so they had to make do with a tank  :D

but its a fair walk down the track

so pack light! ;)

How far?

Sorted! :D

OK, travel options are emerging -

1: Overnight on the 7th - Train down the West Coast line, getting into Salisbury about 10am on the 8th - Perfect time to freshen-up get a leisurely bus to the Festival.

2: All day on the 7th - Aberdeen to Basingstoke! (where did they hide this train? ) then on to Salisbury for @7pm. Camp in Salisbury overnight & on to the Festival next day. This has its advantages & I'd be less tired after a night on the train.

3: Fly from Aberdeen to Bristol on the morning of the 8th. Bus to Temple Meads (& get supplies), then on to Salisbury for around lunchtime. Taking the later plane would see me there around tea time.

All work-out within the £145-£165 (ret) range for the total journey.

Spend a few days in Salisbury/South afterwards.

Hmm, very possible! :)

Choices, choices - maybe? :)

it's worth remembering that it's not really one of those festivals where you have to be there really early on - I got there teatime on the friday last year and didn't feel that I'd missed out on anything at all.

Are people talking travel already? I've not thought about it properly yet

Might hire a car/some vehicle, because we're doing Beautiful Days too... and taking holiday in between the two :)

:D I want a shower somewhere with a bed in between the two festies though  not too sure what that has to do with a car, but something, I'm sure! :D

Then if you've got a car Biddly you could head down to somewhere like Lyme Regis for a couple of days in between. Book soon though if you want a B&B.

You could always book into another camp site.

Was thinking of somewhere by the coast... although didn't half of Lyme Regis fall to bits recently? :D

Should sort it out soon! Another campsite is an idea too... wouldn't mind washing a few bits though (clothes ;))... means I have to pack less for the week.

Its just that it is a long slog from Aberdeen so getting that worked-out early-on & preferably with a bit of rest-time included, does take a bit of the stress out of things. :)

Pleased to hear that. :)

God knows what time I'm gonna get there on friday :(

Oh dear - That gives me ideas. I see it is the weekend after & there are still tickets on sale too! :hmm: :D

This is the Scottish festival I'm thinking on passing-up for Enrorseit:

Its not bad, although it has a few issues - mainly exceptionally strict licencing conditions. However I can get tickets very cheap & it is only a couple of hours away from me.

I know, I know but ATM, flying to Bristol is looking like the best option time and cost wise - some £30-odd cheaper than the train & quite a few hours less travel time, even allowing for going to & from the airport. :(

Similarly driving/riding to the South just for a 3-day festival seems a bit much without something else to do. Whenever I've been heading down there before, I've had work to attend to as well.

You can give me a lift on the way down so I don't have to put up with that skank el jefe and his leaky gas stove :D
