Electric Dreams

D'wards

IT'S YOUR DECISION DANIEL
New ten part anthology series on Channel 4 based on the writings of Phillip K Dick.

Episode one - The Hood Maker. Not loving it so far. Pretty generic dystopian sci fi, you know the type - create grim atmosphere by making it dark and rainy all the time.

Plus the sound is awful - I've had to turn subtitles on.

Hoping the rest of the series is better

We couldn't hear much of the dialogue either but the subtitles didn't work (via Sky) - how did you view them, D'wards ?
Yeah, bad sound, esp the whispering, and it was murky as fuck too, to ill effect - it looked like they were just covering up how little they'd spent on the minimal sets.
I think each episode is written and directed by different people, so I have some hope for the rest of it

Yet another Philip K Dick story that's been 'improved' by adding an element of romance. Wonder if they can shoe horn some into 'Impossible Planet' too?

I have a Humax freeview box - they worked fine on that

Didn't think much of the first story. But then as all episodes are different stories and (presumably) by different directors, the quality of the previous instalment is irrelevant. Look forward to this week's episode.

Just finished ep1, will stick it out for now. I think people expect way too much from 1st episodes these days.

We tried watching the first one last night - it was laughably bad. Leaden dialogue, clunky, obvious themes. Turned off after 15 minutes.

Just watched the 2nd one. I have no idea what happened at the end. Was mostly fairly confused throughout the whole thing though. Might have a read of the original story to see if there are any clues there.

Oxygen depletion plus noxious gas = hallucinations.

Not a lot of clues in the original book.
1. There is no love story element. Or the weird connections / memories.
2. The robot goes off with her into the blue yonder and they are never seen again
3. It was Earth all along as evidenced by the presence of a coin they find but they don't know what it is and that it's evidence it's the planet formally known as prince earth.

Central premise of the short story dropped (again) in order to tell some (more) love stories. That said, it was well done. Just a shame that the story of earth in the book was really good and there was no need to jettison it.

I love Black Mirror but was a bit bored by episode 1 of this. I wanted to care about the characters but just didn't all that much. Watched San Junipero directly after to cheer myself up.

Last night's was the best so far I think - it was directed by Marc Munden, who did Utopia and National Treasure and Terry Gilliam collaborator and Gilliam collaborator and Red Riding Adaptor Tony Grisoni wrote it.
Buscemi was great - love that final shot (
He's lost his home, his wife, his boat and his job, but he's cool cos he's got his rare Syd Barrett record
