Dulwich Hamlet vs Bognor Regis Town, ILP, Saturday 4th January

Flitting in & out like Tinkerbell on Meth
Started the thread as didn’t see one here. What was a “should win” game a week or so ago has a must win game.

Well, where do you start with that!? Is it the fact that Dulwich gifted victory to a side without a win in 10 matches and just 1 win in 16? Or the fact they've conceded 6 goals to sides playing with 10 men? Or....or....or.....etc

At the start of the 2nd half it really looked like Dulwich could fill their boots in front of goal but several times missed when it really was easier to score or played a blindingly stupid pass when someone could have been sent through one on one with the keeper. Twice Deon Moore could have set Lorenzo up for an easy chance but in his desperation for a goal tried to do it all on his own.

Barnes' head went after he dropped the ball to give Bognor their second goal but the ball was continually played back to him and he nervously misplaced every kick.

The winner came from yet more shoddy Dulwich play. Dulwich were pushing for their own winner but when a killer ball from midfield was needed it was shanked high into the air and out for a throw in. Bognor sensed blood and took their opportunity.

Will injuries be the excuse again?

Interesting to note the attendance. Last season the first Saturday game of the new year was at home to Hashtag United and saw a sell out full house of 3334. Today against an established Isthmian club with whom the Hamlet have had a healthy rivalry down the years the crowd was down by more than a thousand. Too early to say that this down to the football being played but I’m guessing the powers that be will have noticed that.

I haven't been in ages so I'm not qualified to offer anything other than observations from the results, meetings I have been to and from hearing reports from friends.

The core of the football club - a knowledge of football at this level - is clearly missing and has been missing for a LONG time. I feel hugely for everyone running the club for match days on the day to day. This is not their jobs and clearly just keeping the ground running and everything else is a huge distraction. But I'm afraid that's the crux of the problem - FOOTBALL at Dulwich Hamlet seems to have been relegated to this distraction. What is our FOOTBALL strategy?

Sack Hak, sure. That's inevitable and he should walk tonight. But then what?

Needs to be a complete rethink.

I can only comment from my own experience as a keeper but this is definitely a position where confidence is key. Whether this is an indicator of the management attitude to his keepers where negatives played up at the expense of positives alluded to by Jack Ruddy I can only guess. What I will say is that can cause a keeper to become nervous. I know because I’ve been there with Clapton.

What a shambles. Even for Dulwich, I couldn't see how we could lose that game at half time.

Came out for the second half ridiculously complacent. Felt like every player wanted to pile forward and get themselves a goal rather than see the game out. Despite that, I can't think of the Bognor keeper having a single save to make.

Goalkeeping and defending was farcical during the last half hour.

If this doesn't see Hak leave the club, I don't know what will. It's become a depressing club to be involved with and I don't see that changing whilst he's still there.

Anyone else just taken a look at the Isthmian South East to see who we might be playing if we go down?

FFS Beckenham Town could pass us on the way up, we used to play them in pre-season as a favour because we were 3 levels above!

Guernsey will probably go down but Jersey looks nailed on to come up. That's an enjoyable weekend away..Drink in town not at the ground though, unless you like lager passing itself off as Spanish.
